Default Center tail light piece...making it light up

I was behind a Cadillac Catera the other day and thought the tail lights were cool...the center piece was illuminated and that got me thinking about the center piece on Civics/CRX's.I was thinking about pulling it out and maybe seeing if I could get it to do the same...maybe some LED's spliced into the parking lights or something. The only problem would be pulling it off clean and OEM looking, anyone tryed this before?

i have an extra center piece. i haven't taken too much time to it, but i was planning on making an led housing for it so it can light up. i want it to illuminate CRX right in the center. thought that would be pretty neat.

there isn't too much space back there though...

I have been thinking of doing something like this for a little while now, but having the whole center piece light up when I use my brakes.
This does look kinda of ricey but still kinda cool.

I did this to my Eclipse like 5 years ago. I used this link to help me. Its for Eclipses but should work for the Hatch.

The pic in that link doesn't look as good as i would want it to on my car...is there anything out there that is very reflective, more than Foil? Maybe like flexible mirror type stuff they have at Pep Boys for when your side mirrors break...

I could only do this mod if mine came out perfect...but that's just me.

Some good drilling and splicing will easily do the trick. Be carefull not to hit the other side of the light when drilling through though. Also use rubber to insulate any wholes you drill.

there is a plexiglass mirror out on the market... all the sub enclosures that have the mirror on the inside... another thing you could use instead of the 6 volt bulbs or the clear gm dome lights that the guy in the eclipse used would be 2 of the little 4 inch white neon tubes... the transformers are built into the light so you could wire them up to the tail lights... and the neon will be a lot cooler as far as temp goes... if you wanted to you could add four of the neon tubes and hook 2 up to the break light... when you hit the break all 4 would light up and be that much brighter...just an idea... and in most cases the tep of the light wont melt the plastic on the honda parts... the paint on the eclipse version might burn but i dont think the plastic will melt...

that eclipse looks like junk,u would need a strip of led's that went across the whole middle peice for it to light up fully.

Was it an optional equipment piece in Japan, or standard equipment on a limited edition or what?

They look soooo sweet. I wonder why they never had one for the CRX?

maybe there wasn't enough room in there for it, i know on the civic the light took up alot of room in it, and the crx has the reverse lights in the middle so it might have been a tight squeeze

Maybe. It just seems that the CRX would be the model that gets all the cool stuff since its the "sportier" of the two.

Good call, it would look a little nicer in a different color like red maybe, still cool nevertheless.

I would recommend using bright red leds.. it will light it up with a nice red illumination and not make the point of light be as obvious as using a standard white bulb .. here is a great place to get your leds from .. high quality and cheap

aren't LED's more a direct beam rather than a flood of light?

thats why i suggested using the slim line neons... less than half an inch tall four inches long... and if you wanted to change the glow color just change the neon color... i would stick with white imo... but that is just me... they are cheap to get so you could play around with different colors to find what you are loking for...the led would be more like the progector affect... not an all around lighting type thing... you would have to line the whole piece with led's and that would get to be a lot... ever wonder how many led's are in the back of a spoiler/wing??? count em some time...

I was thinking about it, and maybe EL glow panels, stick them right against the lens and it would make a nice even glow.
