Timing belt change complete...WOOHOO! A couple bugs to work out still...
Well, I finally got everything put back together last night on my wife's 91 accord. I put a new timing belt, balance shafts belt, water pump, accessories belts, coolant, sparkplugs, oil/oil filter. Should run like a champ now. Here is a little of my experience yesterday.
So I got everything put back together. I finished putting coolant in and was all ready to start her up. I turn the key and start it. I start hearing a bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. I immediately turn the car off and start going over in my head what I did to make sure I performed all the necessary tasks that I was supposed to. I traced the noise down to the timing cover(s). I removed the top cover (after taking out the motor mount and bracket). I then start the car again. The same "bang, bang, bang, bang." Only this time I can see it. There was so much slack in the timing belt that it was hitting the timing cover! I turned the car off, loosened the tensioner nut, and turned the crank half a turn counterclockwise. Then I tightened the tensioner nut and started the car again. The "bang, bang, bang, bang" was replaced with a smooth running 2.2 liter engine. Sounded like the timing was good.
However, I took the car out for a spin after that. Immediately, I noticed a couple of bugs that maybe you can help me with. The gas pedal sticks a little bit when you first push it. And while accelerating, Then is a slight jerkiness from 1000 rpm to 2200rpm. Maybe there is still a little too much slack in the timing belt. Any ideas?
I want to thank all of you for your help during this project. It was my first timing belt change ever on any car. Boy was this a first job.

I might have figured out what the problem is. After describing the symptoms to a co-worker who has done a timing belt change on a Honda, he said I may need to adjust the timing on the car with a timing light. Does this sound right? Have any of you had to do this after a timing belt change? Thanks.
Im not sure what all you have done, but did you make sure all the pulleys were lined up. crank at tdc etc. let me know more info
yea did you make sure you were at tdc (top dead center) before changing. After that just line all the timing marks up and it should run perfect. After i did my timing belt and everything else including all oil seals. I went from a 16.9 to a 16.3 at the track,But that was bc a oil seal on vtec make a big diffrence.
