shift light still stays on w/o green wire hooked up

shift light still stays on w/o green wire hooked up

i just got a proform stand alone shift light, the light stays on with just the red and black wires hooked up. somebody told me to get a relay if the light just stays on but it didnt come with one, does anybody know anything about this???

what happends if u put 12v or gruond across the green? it shuts off?

if i put ground across the green the light turns off...
