toluene use on gas
i have read that the use of toluene mix with fuel provides a great octane booster. has anyone tried it. i look it up and its cheap compared to the octane booster they sell at auto stores. well i am going to try it tommorow and see what happens.
Honda used to use Toluene in their Forumla Cars back in the days of the 1300hp turbo 4cyl. cars.
They ran those 1.3 liter 4 bangers with 72 pounds of boost and they would use Toluene along with other fuels to achieve a raceable motor.
Some fuels, when mixed with other fuels, obviously can/will change octane rating but in the older F1 days they would mix fuels to also change WEIGHT. Some fuels weighed less and would work better on diff. tracks!
I've been interested in Toluene as well but I don't see me using it because I have a CR that is great with 92 octane. If I had a motor that had 12:1 or greater CR I'd invest in a little more research.

one pint per two gallons of gas will give you approx 3-5 octane points(depending on how accurately you are measuring). we used to put it in rx-7tt's all the time. you can get toulene at some industrial chem supply stores. just be forewarned, tweakers buy the stuff for making speed and some guys wont want to sell you a large amount. Try making friends with the guy and tell him you are only using it as octane booster and not cooking up meth in your garage.

Seems like anything you buy nowdays is also used in meth, WTF isnt in that ****

i could not find toluene at the store so i used xylene one gallon to 10.9 of 91. I can feel a little more peppyness at the throttle. Also when i hit the throttle hard and shift it feels more fuild between gears insted of a pause. When it goes down a gallon ill try another gallon of xylene.

Ordinary gasoline is already a carcinogen.

What kind of engine/mods do you have done to your car? the effects you are feeling might just be in your head.
Judging by the numbers you gave out you have a 11.9 fuel tank capacity, so a mixture of 10.9 gallons 91 and 1 gallon Xylene (117) gives you a mixture of about 93.1 octane.
A 2.5 gallon mix of Xylene and 9.4 gallons of 91 = 96.47 octane
A 5 gallon mix of Xylene and 6.9 gallons of 91 = 101 octane
Just something to think about though: mixing Xylene/Toluene into your gas is pretty pointless if you are lightly or un-modded. So you need to set your car up to take advantage of the higher octane. Also Toluene and Xylene lack the lubricants that are found in pump gas. So when you mix Xylene/Toluene in with your gas, make sure to use a bottle of Marvels Mystery Oil (MMO) to add some lubrication into the mix.

good point about the lubrication of gasoline, but I dont think this is going to come into play with most of the street mixtures. Provided you keep your fuel/additive mixture at 8/2 you should be just fine. In those same RX-7's we often put about three gallons of methanol to get them past the test only smogs this never caused any ill effects, in some cases we were often running close to a 50/50 mix. just have to be certain you fill that tank back up with gasoline asap to prevent line corrosion.
You and my friend said the same thing so ill stop from using it on my car but we used it on my friends crx. It has a LS bottom, B16 head, B16 tranny J1, Dc headers, ITR intake manifold jackson racing supercharger and some more i cant remember but we will take it out tonigh to see if it helps
xylene corrodes plastic and rubber..
u better be freakin careful before u start shooting plstic pices into your motor
u people need to do more research, that is unless u have the cash to throw away on your fuel system when u corrode itall
have fun!
