vis CF hood clear coat cracking.
just thought i would show some of you what was going on with my hood. I haven't hit anything that i know of and these cracks have actually grow from 1 crack that was about 3 inches long. now there are 3 long cracks that come from the original and the original is about 8 inches long so 4 cracks in total.
I have contacted VIS and they are working with me to take care of the problem. there customer serviceis great and they are doing everything in there power to work with me to resolve this. VIS
Has anyone else had problems like this? what do you think i should do to resolve my problem?
well here are the pictures...

Damn that sucks. I'm goin to buy a vis soon, and just so happens you car is the same color as mine. Do you mind taking a pic of your car with the carbon fiber hood on it, And posting some pics?
I think the carbon fiber hood with the teal paint looks tight.

That looks liek a nice hood, but no good on the cracking
Just keep with VIS and see what they can do, someone might post a DIY to fix those cracks up though.

im hoping someone posts a DIY im sure someone knows what i can do. I guess if i had to i could bring it to a body/paint shop and have them reclear the hood, but i would much rather see what VIS wants me to do.
here are some other pictures of my CRX -16v-

hope that helps ya out.

clean ride bro
wish I could get one for my ride
but ain't no one trying to help not even ViS
but here is a solution for u
my friends c/f was also doing the same thing
but just brought it to us to re shoot some clear coat on there and no porb
the thing is they made those hoods the cheapest way possible to sell them for more to of course make a profit
business u know
so also we shot a light mist of his car on the hood and matches the car but u still can see the fibers
hope this helps u out a bit

i can't just re shoot the clear over the cracks...they go all the way to the CF. i would have to strip the clear and then re clear it... i don't know how to do that. but i'm pretty sure thats how im going to end up fixing this problem.
took some new pics of the car if anyone is interested.

sounds like their customer service brain washed you...
if they did everything in their power they would just give you a new one.. but they arent..... they are probably just going to say you didnt take proper care of your hood and that's it .... i'll stick around to see if they do actually help you tho..

well we'll see if they actually do something for me. i just sent them pictures today and they have been responding within 24 hours each time i have mailed them. all im asking is for the best way to fix the hood. im not asking for a new one just how to fix this one. if they want me to send them the hood for further inspection i would. from what they have told me this hasn't happened before with one of their hoods with normal use.
i'll post up what happens as soon as i get word.

I agree sheesh I hate the hole carbon fibre fad......everyone has black hoods=ugly car.
Just color match that thing and your car will look alot better
some people dont even know why they have a c/f hood....they were origionally meant for paint but then people get cheap and think that a c/f hood is bling...ooh I cant stand it
I've even seen people in my town with primered black hoods cuz they go for that c/f look..idiots
kids these days

i personally don't want to color match the hood. i love looking at the weave of my CF hood.
johnjw... just because someone has a CF hood doesn't mean the car is ugly. i can show you a **** load of people that would be baffeled by that statement. if you don't like CF thats your own thing, but to say cars with the color/black cf combo is ugly is just WACK. thats your opinion and you can have it....
if CF hoods were originally meant for paint then why do they come with a gleaming clear coat thats uv protected from fadingn from the sun?!
as for the people that paint their hoods black or get CF stickers i agree they are idiots.
for my car its form and fashion and helps me finish my car with a look i personally love and the weight savings to get my car through the track faster.
*UPDATE*
got some direct phone #s to sales reps at VIS and im working on a deal to get a new hood for free direct from VIS. its taking a long time to make this happen, but it will be well worth it in the end.

naw man I'm not saying I *hate* carbon fibre......I think its pretty cool stuff, just that a fibreglass hood with a sheet of carbon fibre is strictly for looks, thats why people dont paint it, they want to flawnt their c/f bling yO*
also c/f hoods used to not come with the clearcoat....they were "dry" carbon which in my opinion is alot sexier then some candy coated bling crap.
"Dry" is usually seen in parts that have total function over form....clearcoat weighs something right
c/f hoods used to be soooo light... now with demand for the masses they have to make it durable for the average joe( structure on the backside and clearcoat to make it all weather, you know for that rain and snow that it will see)
sorry for the hijack tho.......just thought I would get that off my chest
btw I think your guy's cars look great, I love tgp, but....well you know, I dont like black hoods on nice cars
Hey you dont see racecars that are made out of carbon fibre show it. They are nicely painted(like a car should be) imo

So do u like carbon fiber "dry" or do u like it painted like on race cars? Paint weighs something just like clear coat does...
