Default Will this throw the crank balance off??

I have a h22 longblock, and there is a little stud that comes out the of the crank to hold the flywheel on the crank. I was wondering if I cut that off would it throw the balance off of the crank?

Let me know. Here is some pics of what I am taking about. Thanks Guys.

Two things:
WHY?
and .... WHY?

My guess is yes, it throws the balance off... is it enough to notice or change things? Dunno the answer to that.

Why the heck would you wanna remove that?

That's not much metal to remove, if you're trying to lighten the crank, but it very well may throw it all off balance.

If you're trying to lighten it up, there's MANY other better places to remove some weight. Otherwise, there's not a good reason to try to remove that thing.

that little nippe thing is the peice that makes the flywheel go on one way and one way only. the flyhwheel has to go on a certain way to check/set the ignition timing

Im making a adatper plater for a B series tranny to go on a H series block, the H series flywheel is too big in diameter, the H series is 12 inch in diameter and a B series is 11 1/2 in diameter. I have to use all B series parts so it will work. That is why I was asking if I could cut it off, so I could put my B series flywheel on.
Make be better off drilling a hole in my flywheel instead of cutting that pin off.

Hmmm, interesting; i don't know enough about those trannies to say if it's a bad or good idea, but it sounds....interesting.

Bingo! THAT'S the better idea.

hmm this sounds really cool, you should post up some pics of what you have in progress, i would say don't cut that pin off, just drill a hole int he flywheel, what is the b-series gearing that you are trying to runwith the h block?

i assume this is party to allow the use of a conventional linkage instead of the cables that the H series use.... that and the fact that there are mor b-series gearing options

There are 3 reasons why im doing this adapter plate

I didnt want to convert to hydro

I didnt want to have change all my mounts, with the b series tranny, I can use my Hasport mounts still and the axles. I dont have to make custom axles or mounts.

I didnt want to change to shifter cables, this way I can use the linkage...

So the H flywheel/clutch won't fit in the B bell-housing?

But yeah, I think machining a B flywheel to accept the H's pin would be the most logical option. Who knows, you might be able to get somebody like Fidanza or ACT to make one for you. Assuming your adapter works & becomes more commonplace, there'd certainly be a market.

I wouldn't think it would change the balance if the flywheel does not have a hole for the pin. The little bit of mass you would be losing by cutting the pin off would be replaced by the lack of a hole in the flywheel. But your best bet is just to drill the flywheel.
