This was the 2nd time I does auto-X in my ITR. WOW, that is cool!!! I love it
. I did 3 runs and killed my friends Audi S3 (260hp, 4wd) shaving 4 tenth from his time. We both have the Good Year Eagle F1 in 225 on 17inchers. I have a 35 sidewall and he rolls on 45. We leaved before the event was over, this time I did the 2nd best run. 1st place was a Lotus Elise with Yokohama auto-X tires. (I need such rubbers next season) L
DAMN! I need some rubbers for DRAGing, some tires for auto-X, of course a set for daily driving and last but not least some winter rubbers when my beater try to give up in the snow (1986 318i Bimmer with 325000 kilometers on the tach and lots of rust, hehe). Next year itīs tire buy year, itīs gona be expensive.
What is the best tire for auto-X? 15, 16 or 17inch. Is a thinner sidewall the best for it? What tire brand do you use? I feelt my 225/35/17 sticked very well. But you guys have more experience. What do you drive?
Thanks!

If you're on a budget, you can't beat (in US at least) the Kumho V700, in a 15 inch size usually. Alot of people run bigger rims on the street, and use their stock 15s for AutoX...205/50 R15 is most comon size, some guys run 225s up front. The V700 is cheaper than the Hoosiers or Yokohamas, and while not quite as grippy as the Hoosier on most surfaces, it lasts longer and is a good deal. The sidewalls on R tires is insanely stiff compared to street, plus it's alot cheaper to replace 15 inch tires that wear quickly than it is to replace 17s that wear quickly. Finally, i don't think any competitive autoXers run bigger than 16, 17s are a little bit large, weigh more, and you don't want the sidewall to grab and flip the car or something ugly like that. Congrats on your runs, stick with it and try to get some advice/ride alongs with the local champs, you'll learn alot. Finally, check out the competition forum if you haven't, there's alot of good AutoX info there.
