Default Tapping damage

I over reved my the motor last week and my Vafc said it hit 9973RPMs. The car still seems to run great and idle is fine. I dynoed it last week and didnt see any kind of loss of power and the air/fuel is running perfect. The car doesnt smoke either but the only thing is that its making a soft tapping noise now. How much damage do u think im looking at?, Im going to take it to the shop monday but I was just curious to know if i was going to be looking a big problem. You think a vavle adjustment is in order?.

How built is the head? Hope for the best expect the worst. You might have bent a valve.

i have a lot of experience with blown motors-i blew my gsr motor twice and a couple other honda motors too. ha i should work for them and proffesionally blow up their motors-but neways common prob with over rev you could have a small compression leak if you valves are damaged. thats the no.1 one thing i would be worried about plus its the most common thing that occurs when you over rev. so you should get a engine leak down test and compression test the chambers. that will definetly give you any evidence of bent valves. and yes a common misconception with bent valves is that once you bent them ur fucked....well kinda but not totally true. the second time i blew my motor (gsr) i had about 4-6bent valves but the car still ran and i put on 1,000 miles on it after. i just couldnt really hold full compression. it wasnt really bad-the bending of the valves it was just that i didnt have full pwer i fixed my own motor the second time. i just replaced the whole head. you can prob find one for like 500-800. i paid 700 and my car was running in tip top shape. although the first time i blew the mtor i had it fixed by a pro and it ran me over 2,000. i think if you had bent valves(most likely) you should just swap out the head. it saves you money-changing the valves and having to mill the head. hope this helps, ha hope the info of my mishaps help.

I predict you throw a bearing in the next 2 months. Almost every bearing I have seen thrown comes from overrevving.
