My boys car wont rev past 3500 RPM. Whats wrong? DPFI-MPFI with ZC SOHC VTEC
My boy just got done doing a ZC SOHC VTEC swap in his 88 civic hatch. He also had his harness converted from DPFI to MPFI. When he starts his car it idles at around 1100 until warmed up and drops to around 700-800 rpm. When he tries reving it, it wont rev past 3500. I dont know what the hell is wrong with it so he asked if I could find out. If anyone knows, let me know.
i just went through the whole motor swap thing and conversion and was getting a code 4 - crank position sensor or whatever it was, i can't remember exactly. before we went ripping everything apart and checking everything i pulled the fuse to reset the ecu and the car has been running perfect since. start by resetting the ecu and then see what happens.

Yeah thats what I was going to do first. Reset the ECU and try it out. If that doesnt solve the problem I'm going to check the distributor. The distributor he got is brand new though. I dont know, I'll check it out either tomorrow or Monday for him.
Well he had to wire **** up by himself. He said something to me about pins C1, C2, B10, and B12. He said he thinks its those because those are the crank angle sensors. I dont know. I'll have to try to get ahold of him today.
I went and checked it out for him last nite. Resetting the ECU took it out of limp mode. I also noticed a short in the ground between the engine and the engine mount, sparks were flashing. That was making his idle super fucked up, I just stuck some cardboard in there for now until he fixes it. He also has a vacuum leak. Little things, easy fixes.
glad you figured it out.
my buddy was having the same problem with the angle sensor. ended up being one of the pins didn't have a good connection. i tighened the grip on the pin and it worked fine. the thing had us dumb f@!ked for 2 days!
