Short Shifter
I just got a short shifter, and my question is: Is it supposed to have about a 1/2 inch of play when it's connected to the linkage? I searched this topic and only found some answers I was looking for. Can anybody recommend a good brand? One that won't hit my exhaust, and will fit better?

I've heard the Neuspeed is the only one that's really worth it. Let me know how it goes if you do happen to get it. I have a Greddy exhaust, and I wanna know if it'll rub the exhaust pipe. I'm in the market for one also.
Devin, I can't pull mines up like what you are describing, at the most I only need 1/2 in. clearance so the shifter doesn't hit my exhaust. I meant when I move the shifter left to right it has gaps in the part where you bolt the shifter the the linkage. I just realized now that the guy who gave me this shifter might have bought the wrong one.
How much did you get the Neuspeed shifter for Blown?

One problem...that makes it a shorter shifter...not a short throw shifter. The short throw is in the position of the pivot ball on the shifter. The longer the distance between the ball and the point of where it connects to the shift linkage....the shorter the throw. Not cutting the shifter down.
BlownHatch, we talked about this one on the phone.
NOTE ---> you do have to cut a lot of material off. On a CRX, about 2" feels like around 50% reduction in throw. I prefer it this way, because the shifter sits nice and low in relation to the console, and doesnt stick up 3 feet in the air like some of the cheaper shifters out there.

HAHA....Ben is funny. To make a stock shifter feel like a 50% reduction..you will have to cut a lot off...like 2"s. Good Job Ben. If not...dont waste your money on like an OBx one...
The guy I bought the car from cut the stock shifter so it was just a stump sticking out of the boot
I had to lean over to shift into fifth everytime. Is a si linkage different from a dx one?

is your engine stock i have a skunkworks shortshifter in my 88 crx i have a b16 with hasport linkage and it seems to work good works better than my old hurst its kind of pricy though and some other people said they had problems with the skunk shifter.
hey just a question whn i buy a shortshifter for my civic n then do a swap to an teg motor.... do i have to get a differnt shifter becasue the shift linkage u would have to change while the swap?????
no you can keep the same shifter you just need different shift linkages i would not recommend modifying stock linkages doesn't really work to good pay for hasport or make a hasport copy.
I have the DC Sports Short shifter... I like it. Doesn't hit the exhaust and it shifts pretty good. Except it sure as hell doesn't help the already weak synchros....
And yeah..... Ben is all about the ghetto-rig

I have the skunk2 shifter, it feels great but it rubs against my exhaust when the car idles or rolls over 1800-2000 rpm.....I tried getting the exhaust hung a little bit lower, but no luck, and now my exhaust shop is saying they dont think they can go any lower....does anyone know a solution for this problem? I can definitely feel it hitting the pipe, if you drive with your hand on the ****, you feel it for sure.
