Default Can someone explain offsets?

Can someone explain offsets? We tried some rotas on my dad's car last night and with the offset it hit the fenders on the outside. We want to order some that would fit but what offset should we get and whats the #'s accually mean. thanks

offset is the number (usually in MM) distance from the center of the wheel to where it would mount to the hub. i don't know if that explains it well enough, but just think of it like this:

36 mm offset sticks out further then a 44 mm offset, because 44 mm offset sticks out further meaning the wheel has to be in further for it to mount up to the hub.

hold on, let me make a ghetto illustration and i'll post it up in a bit.

Ok so looking at the pictures 20mm offset would go which way? As opposed to a 40mm offset?

20mm off set goes the same way as the 40mm off sett there BOTH positive offset's once you get to the line then go to the other side of it then you can get a negative offset.

20mm offset would have stick out futher then the 40mm offset. it will be hard to run a 20mm offset on a honda. **** would stick out like on a mexican car were the dayton's stick out of the fenders.

most honda's run in the 40 how ever you can run in the 30's also, you just wont be able to go super low because the wheel will not fit in the wheel well

I ran some 17's with a 42mm offset back in the states. Never really had a problem when it was stock height. Anybody happen to know what the offset of stok Si rims are? I was thinking 35 or 38 maybe.
