rear balance shaft sprocket
There are two marks on the rear balance shaft. There is a dot and there is a notch. The Haynes manual shows a pic that has the notch lining up with the dot on the block. However, the only way I can insert a drill bit to lock the rear balance shaft is when the dot on the sprocket lines up with the dot on the block; NOT the notch. Can someone help me? This is quite urgent! Thanks.
Can anyone HELP? This is rediculous. I don't understand why Honda sees the need for pairs of timing marks per balance shaft sprocket. It just creates more opportunity for confusion.

thats where it needs to be, even if the marks dont line up. i had the exact same issue when i changed the belt. i lined up the mark and the shaft wouldnt lock, i locked the shaft and the marks were off
i figured it was one or the other so i tried it w/ the marks lined up, and i could feel it wasnt right when i drove the car. so i re-did it w/ the shaft locked and it runs perfect. hth
the balance shaft turns at twice the speed of the crank. so you have to just keep turning the gear until you can get it lined up.
