Locating TDC for camshaft
I am doing the timing belt change for my 91 accord. I have locked the crankshaft at TDC. Now, I am positioning the camshaft at TDC. I know the "up" mark must face up and the two marks on the side of the sprocket must be parallel with the top of the piston. If I line the two marks on the side of the sprocket up with where the valve cover meets the block, is this TDC? I am trying to find out what to base those marks on.
I the crank is at TDC then the cam should be at TDC. The top mark on the cam goes up and the 2 marks go parallel with where the valve cover meets the head.
Well. I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. I have all of the sprockets lined up correctly with the belts on. Then I turn the crankshaft counterclockwise 3 teeth on the camshaft. Then I tightened the tensioner arm. I then try to turn the crankshaft and I here like a springy noise (I am thinking the piston hitting the valves). I just can't figure out what is going on. Anything I am doing wrong that you can find?
