Wiring Harness Questions
Ok, can someone explain this whole wiring thing for me. What is the diference between the engine harness and the chassis harness? Do they just plug in together. Which one plugs into the ecu? Do you need to get both of them for a swap? Do you still use the stock wiring harness from the car or do you use the new one that came with your new engine?
My friend has a track only 95 civic. He is doing an H22 swap. Does he even need most of the wires? He doesn't need any of the heater, radio, lights...crap. All he really needs for the interior, wiring wise, is the tach, speedo, ecu, and some rear lights. Can he just make new wires and run them from the appropriate mechanism? What wires will he need to use from the stock harness and which ones will he need to create?
He allready knows about all of this, but I don't and I am supose to be helping him out. I can wrench and ****, but when it comes to wiring I am clueless. I would just like to learn so that I can maybe help him with it. I am just to embarresed to ask him myself.
Thank to everyone who contributes!
What is the diference between the engine harness and the chassis harness?
Engine harness is on the motor, chassis harness, while very broad in its definition, refers to the harness that connects the engine harness to the ECU.
Do they just plug in together.
Yes
Which one plugs into the ecu?
Chassis harness
Do you need to get both of them for a swap?
No
Do you still use the stock wiring harness from the car or do you use the new one that came with your new engine?
Depends. If it is JDM then you toss it and use the equivalent USDM one or a modified one.
Although I haven't done this particular swap, I don't think he needs all the extra wires. I would just take everything if it doesn't cost anything.
