Default 3.2 vs 3 litre engine (TODA stroker kit?)

Whats the different between 3 litre and 3.2 litre engine? Is it same engine only stroked? Will the TODA http://www.todaracing.com/prod....html fit in all engines and the other parts from TODA too?

I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that the block is bored out an extra .2 liters. I think if the stroke were changed the RPM redline would be changed as well.

Shawn, who proves once again that a little engine knowledge translates to a lot of destructive capability.

You are correct!

Quoting from the 1997 powertrain section of the NSX FAQ:

"To increase the displacement of the 1997 NSX to 3.2 liters, the bore was increased from 90 to 93 mm."

Other changes were made as well; click on the link for more details.

As for what Toda parts will fit, ask Toda. (However, I think it makes more sense to trade up to a stock 3.2-liter NSX than to add a stroker kit to a 3.0. And if I wanted to add still more power to an NSX engine, Toda is not the direction I would go.)

Why not?

the 3.2 is bored, but its not just a simple bore.
the sleeves in the 3.2 are FRM, fibre reinforced metallic composite, to keep strength up with a thinner wall.

Because Toda has approximately zero experience with modding the NSX engines on street cars, and approximately the same number of installations, compared with, for example, Comptech, which has a bolt-on supercharger with ~200-300 examples running around.

EDIT: Revised wording slightly because David Bernert is an obsessive nitpicker.

Good question. I can't speak for Ken but I'd guess that the TODA kit is just as if not more expensive than a comparable FI kit. In addition, the FI kit would produce much more low end grunt (torque) than the TODA parts. And both would require a bit of tuning to reach their potential.

Anyone know if the TODA kit has a higher RPM ceiling than stock?

EDIT: oops, Ken beat me to it.

Why do you say things like this as if they were facts and not your opinion? Toda has been building JGTC nsx race engines for years. In fact, they were named "2002 JGTC GT300 Tuner Champion" because of the number of successful NSX motors they built for that series. Motors using their stroker crank, by the way. So, they have probably already built more NSX race motors than Comptech ever will.

I wouldn't say zero: http://www.todaracing.com/race_reports/jgtc.html

Comptech does in fact have more history with the NSX but Toda is not small time junk by any stretch.

Because THEY ARE FACTS.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Top Ramen &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">they have probably already built more NSX race motors than Comptech ever will. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Sure, race motors, that are torn apart after every race (if they last that long). What about experience with motors for street cars, and with installation? How many such motors have they built? Zero? One? Two? Tell us.

There are literally DOZENS of folks who post on NSXprime with Comptech superchargers in their NSXs, and I can name at least a dozen places that have installed them - including two places (one in Milwaukee, one in Phoenix) that have installed over thirty of them - enough to get the bugs out and make them reliable (which is not a criterion for race cars) and make the supercharger a true bolt-on, instead of a custom installation. You know how many people on NSXprime have Toda-built engines in their NSXs? Approximately ZERO. That is not opinion. That is fact. Not every NSX owner is on NSXprime, but it's a damn good representation. And when you have a significant portion that is a representative sample and it consists of zero, you don't have a lot of examples in the general population.

Again, you seem unclear on the meaning of the word FACT. It is not a fact because you said it (although that does seem to be your definition). Your statement is FALSE - that means, by everyone else's definition, it is not a fact. Toda does not have "zero experience with the NSX engine." Get over yourself.

They won an award for being the most reliable engine supplier in a very competitive racing series - by supplying NSX motors. That is "zero experience" only in Ken Sax fantasy world. Just admit you are wrong (we'll all mark that day on our calendars) and stop making claims about things you have little or no knowledge of.

But they have virtually zero experience with modding the NSX engines on street cars - certainly by comparison with Comptech.

Since you are so obsessed with nitpicking, I will be happy to go back and make the wording of my post more precise. Just for you, David. Now, I challenge you to go back and revise your posts to remove the silly insults. Show us whether you're just an obsessive nitpicker. If you just care about accuracy, you'll be happy to remove the insults. Leave them in, and you prove that you're just an internet geek who is just hanging out here to flame people, instead of to talk - ACCURATELY - about cars.

Sounds like you've got a bug up your butt, that you're looking to attack me for what I said, in order to distract from the FACT that it's true. Face it - you still haven't disputed the FACT that they do not have much experience with installations in street NSXs. Comptech has something like 200-300 superchargers installed. Exactly how many motors in street NSXs are Toda built? Zero? One? Two? How many? Tell us.

I'll tell you what; instead of your insipid insults, here is a chance to prove yourself. Name two shops in the United States that have each done complete Toda installations in at least a dozen street NSXs (which is still a lot less than Comptech). This is your chance to prove whether or not what you say is full of baloney. We're all waiting...

ROFLMAO - you are still to full of yourself to admit you are wrong. Instead, you try to deflect attention from your "fact" by critisizing my pointing out that what you posted is just plain wrong.

BTW - not to be 'nitpicking', but just to point out the immense scale of your hypocracy - you are probably the biggest, most obsesive internet nit-picker I have ever seen in an arguement. You repeatedly disagree with people over minor, trival facts. But, when you make a glaring miss-statement, low and behold, pointing it out makes me an ' Internet geek.' Again, get over yourself; your original statement was FALSE and I called you on it. Deal with it and stop crying.

Yeah, whatever, David...

I see you still haven't disputed the fact that there are approximately zero Toda engine installations on street cars - information that would be useful to the original poster, who is trying to decide what to do with his car. Some people post here to contribute useful information that will help others, and some people just post here to flame. It's very clear from your posts which one you're all about.

Just my two cents..... I have been in contact with TODA USA from about three months trying to get them to sell me their ITB's. AS they have stated several times over to me on the phone and via Email....They are a racing engine manufacturer. They will not responsible for an installation of their parts in a street engine.

Since selling my SC, I have been looking for an N/A setup that will provide me the increased performance that the car had FI'ed. SOS has an awesome ITB setup. I wanted to get something totally different which nobody had. TODA has the parts - it is just getting them that will be the problem unless you have a race setup (PROGRAM). Then you are on your own.

So, you both are kinda right. TODA makes great NSX parts and has for years but for a race setup only. If for the street, forget about it.

HTH guys from a guy who has talked to TODA

Anyone know of anybody that has actually installed those Toda NSX parts like crank, pistons, cams etc... into an NSX? Id imagine after tuning and whatnot, it would be an absolutely sick N/A setup.

If you want to boot me for arguing with someone like Ken, then go ahead and pull the trigger. I just pointed out a clear error in his post, then told him to stop crying about it when he tried to back-track and rationalize why a false statement was still a 'fact.'

As Ken has pointed out on Prime, I have 'never contributed anything to the NSX community' so by his definition of 'facts' (his having stated something), I wouldn't have anything to contribute anyway.
