Default Which swap will be better?

Overall which swap would be better? an b18c5 or b18c1 for a 96 hatch. Is paying for the b18c5 worth it or could save the money by getting a b18c1 and doing mods to make it alot better? which one would you guys go with?

If it is a daily driver get the ITR engine. It will be more reliable than a turbo enhanced GSR engine. Turbos are nutoriously unreliable.

It really depends on your goals with the car. If you're on a budget, the GSR engine would be ideal. You could always get CTR cams and stuff later on. With the money you save you can also get an R LSD tranny and mate it up to the GSR engine. But after you do all that stuff you could have already gotten an R engine with all that stuff.

If I had the $$ I'd have an R engine in my car right now. It's just an overall better engine and you can rev it up a bit higher! And in the EK, it'd be sweet since it is lighter!

turbos are just as reliable as N/A as long as you know what your doin. there's many people on the board here who have had their GSR's turboed for years w/o problems. Either way even if you don't go F/I get the GSR motor and build it up. The ITR engine isn't worth the extra 2k. with 2k I could get the GSR engine redlining at 8700 with more torque and hp then the R engine.

Really my main goal is to beat a camaro z28 on the street. Besides that I am on a certain budget I am basically selling my car to do this project so i'll have around $11,000 to mess around with but I wanna do some show to it also, which will be about $4000. So I guess I should of asked earlier with $7-8 grand which way would be the better way to make it faster and reliable because this will be a daily driven car.

I you plan on staying NA, then get the b18c1 swap, have the head fully p/p and swap in higher compression pistons, and take it from there and choose your other mods carefully. (cams, header, CAI, Final Drive etc..)
