Default Just bought my first Accord - 1997 4dr Accord LX - Got some questions about engine mods

I just bought a 1997 Honda Accord LX 4dr. It's my first Honda and I'm absolutely in love with it. I'm not building a racer, but I do want a few engine mods on it. I'm mostly concerned with looks on this one. The first thing I want to do is put a ram air intake on it. From what others have told me, there's cold air intake and ram air intake. Cold air intake isn't a good idea because I live in New Orleans and It rains constantly down here and it floods alot, so everyone has told me to go ahead and go with ram air intake. I was looking at the stock air intake and i noticed that it looks like the air flow sensor is included on the air intake assembly that would be replaced. My first question is what would you all suggest as far as which brand of intake setup to go with? Also, when I install the new air intake, what are some things I should be careful of? And most importantly, what happens to the air flow sensor and is that even what i'm seeing on the stock air intake?? I can post pictures of the engine and car if needed.

I'm also wanting to add an exhaust kit to it. What are some suggestions as far as brand and type for my car and where are the best places/websites to get the parts from? I need links for good places to shop for aftermarket parts and accessories as well. The first two exterior changes I would like to make is changing out the head and tail lights. But I haven't found anything worth buying yet in that area. And another one of the first things i'll be changing is the gauge panel. How hard is that to do and what are some websites that have some nice gauge panels?

Keep in mind that I'm an extreme newbie to all of this.

Thanks in advance for your help,

97 LX was my first car, and still is my car. I put an AEM short ram intake on mine. With the stock exhaust it sounds mean. I don't remember having any issues with the air flow sensor when i hooked mine up, but it's been a few months and I wouldn't remember...

I've heard Greddy makes a good exhaust, i'm personally going to get a custom one done at a local place... tasauto.com is a decent place, but pretty expensive. Make sure you shop around and get the best price...

hope something in the rant made sence...

Just out of trying to learn a thing or two about brands in this biz, why did you go with AEM? Any special reason or do they just make all around good parts. I see alot of Hondas with AEM intakes. Thanks for the help.

aem/injen both very good quality intakes. i personally went with the aem short ram as well. i wasn't into that cold air w/ florida's hurricane season either.

In any case i don't know how much power u want but drop an h22a for show and go purposes.

that thing you are reffering to as an intake sensor or whatever is actually a resonator valve that is solely used to keep the tone of the motor down to a minimum...you can easily remove it without problems...

AEM, DC Sports, Injen= intakes

AEM actually bought out DC Sports so the dc sports intakes can be found for like $80 shipped
check http://www.optionauto.com

DC Sports and Greddy= exhaust

http://www.kteller.com, mandrel bent exhausts in various sizes, find a can you like, get it installed. just as good as a greddy, tanabe, hks, etc system for a lot less money and you have total control over what the can looks and sounds like. jm2c

Thanks for the advice with the intake. I'm a big time newb and i'm not sure what you mean in the above quote. What do things like h22a, cd7, and stuff like that refer to?

Thanks for the lesson

cd7 is your car's code name... it's for car geek

h22a is a japanese version of your car's engine, which carry a extra cam and other stuff that bring the horsepower to close to 200

i wouldn't get dc DAC tho', exactly the best quality for the money.
and yes, aem brought dc like two month or so ago.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. This forum is definitely the best thing I've come across to help me with my Honda upgrades.

Where is a good/reliable web site where I can order an AEM short air intake for my Accord at a good price?

Thanks again!
