Default Am I Now Screwed? (No title for CRX)

aight here's the story. I bought my CRX last year in may. My parents never knew about the CRX. (plus, i was only 16 at the time) I told Santos that, and he said i can just rock his plates and use his insurance card if i get pulled over n' what not. So i did that for a year. Now...he just moved like last week to NY. His family still lives in his old house, but he moved in with his GF in NY. I was pissed when one of my friends told me that he moved. He was suppose to sign over the title in June, before i move to NH. Tonight, i went to his old house to ask his family member a question. I think it was his sister i was talking to, but she said that she can just sign the title (forge Santos's name) and i can leave happily ever after. I thought...hmm maybe it will work. Then i remembered...there is no title...i only have the registration paper and his insurance card. I didn't tell his sister that cuz i just remembered this right now. How will i be able to get the CRX under my name/parents name now? gah....this is pissing me off.

first for driving on his tags. His family should know how to get ahold of him. be patient and try to get a number. I'm sure he will get ahold of his parents sometime in the near future. just tell them the truth and they will help... good-luck

I would not keep the rex were you usually keep it thats for sure. He may try and get it back. Contact him and dont be a pushover, make sure he doesnt screw you over. Ask his family to tell him to ship the title already signed over

he doesn't have the title. I have to do a title search, but i dunno if the DMV would let me do a title search since i'm not the owner.

Almost same thing happened to me. You can do the title search as long as you know the vin and have a drivers liscence. It will take a month or so time to get it back. Than you still have to go about contacting the last owner and getting him to get a duplicate made. You got like a 2-3 month wait before you get a title.

^^ What do you mean by contacting the owner and having him getting a duplicate.

Dont understand that, or what the purpose of him getting one aswell is

the owner would get the duplicate in order to sign it over to the guy who was driving on the owners registration... but not necessary if owner has original title...

If "santos" never signed the car over to himself he has to contact the last person to do so. He said he was honna get a title search,so I assume "santos" never signed it over to himself. If he did, there is no point in doing a title search. Just contact "Santos" and go to a local dmv with him. He will have to show proof of ownership"bill of sale, insurabce papers) and have a valid ID. Then with his approval they can send the new title to his name not "santos" It would be alot easier that way,but thats if "santos" ever had legal possesion of this car(had the title in his name)

did santos give you a recipt?
check with the dmv and see if anyone is looking for the car......if not apply for a abandoned title or an out of state title (i usually get them from alabama) then transfer it

do you know anyone that owns a shop or storage place.....throw a lein on the car and just like emerill.......bam

can you still register a car without having the title under your name? i think the title was still under santos's friend's name, from what he told me like last year. He was a cool guy, he just screwed up by not telling me about what we're gonna do about the CRX. The CRX was gone for about 4 months due to it breaking down then getting a new swap.

I feel for ya.But then again you made stupid mistake like me and not get it straightened out right away.Me i bought car with no title,Was told that it was lost or stolen and would be taken care of right after i bought the car now its 4 months later and i dont know where the jerk off went that sold this dam thing to me. oh well glad i have clean title off my wrecked one just like it.Vin plate swaps work wonders but not recommended if you dont wanna risk getting caught and spending time in jail.

I really dont understand how this could even happen in the first place. Dont you have to have the title in your name in order to sell the car ? Isnt it illegal to do so if you dont actually own the car ?
And besides, in Europe (at least in Greece and Belgium) its a imperative that you keep the title and proof of ownership inside the car, of course with names that somehow match your driver's licence and the insurance contract.
Of course this way its easier to steal a car, but then they wont be able to -legally- transfer it anyway.....

legally yes you need the title to sell the car but of course that never stops anyone from stealing a car, or buying it without obtaining a title to it.Most people do that just to buy a car for spare parts.or out of total stupidity like myself. so live and learn from mistakes.

p.s just dont do what i did.

well good news for me. His sister will be visiting him in 2 weeks. I filled out a bill of sale and a owner transfer paper thing(after he signs it n' notarizes it, then i send a check in for 25 bucks and the title gets sent to my house in my name). So now i'm not screwed any more
