how much does it cost for compression test on prelude 2.2vtec
i'm looking at getting the prelude and everyone say to have a compression test done well the thing is the car is about and hour and half away from my house and its at a car lot as is and they want 12 for it the motor has 91,xxxx on her what should i do
Well a dealership will charge you about $100 for the test, although i doubt the sales person is gonna let you take the car to honda to get checked out. If they let you do it, just buy a tester at your local autoparts store and do it your self.
You could always bring a personal mechanic who you trust and knows what he is doing. Or you can do a quick visual and sound check:
1. Check for oil leaks on the floor, around all gasket/seal areas (Oil pan, head gasket, valve cover, distributor side of the head, tranny, ect.)
2. Listen for abnormal sounds from the engine at idel and under load.
3. Test drive the car and check for grinding (if manual) or ruff shifting.
4. Check your coolant. Make sure it is not a weird color and check the reservoir.
Or best yet, tried to find a RSX-S or ITR and race it, if your neck to neck or win....you got a healthy one!!

what year is it? i got a 4th gen i may be selling this summer....that is if you think you can handle 500 whp.
but ya, just buy a compression tester for 15. take it with you. pull a plug out, disconnect the distributer wires screw in the tester and crank the engine.
w/91k expect about 200 psi, and not more then 10-15 psi varience per cylinder

doesnt 12 sound really high? When i looked at ludes ones with 90k were 6-7k and ones with 40-60k were around 8-9k. I personally got mine 5 months ago with 56k on it for 5.6k. not car lot. acura dealer. be careful with car lot. the ones i looked at lots were really in pathetic condition.

A compression test is sooo easy. You buy a compression tester for $20 (or borrow one), and it basically threads in to where your spark plug would go. You remove the fuse for the fuel-injection system and crank the motor over till the tester stops reading out. Record results and replace spark plug. Repeat for all cylinders.
