Default D16a6 series tranny, how do I tell what year it is?

...As the title suggests.
The previous owner dropped in a '91 motor (the car's an '89) but I'm unsure what tranny its running. I know its got to be a '89-'91.

Basically, I need to pick up a clutch but they list different model years. 88, 89, and 90-91

no way to tell the year by looking at it in the car - what you really need to know though, is what year flywheel it has - if the transmission is not 88, then the difference is in the flywheel - 89 had flywheel for 200mm clutch - 90-91 had flywheel for 212mm clutch - the reason they are listed different is 88 Si had 21 spline hub for input shaft, 200mm dia. - 89 had 20 spline hub for input shaft, 200mm dia. - 90-91 had 20 spline, 212mm dia. - just find 90-91 flywheel and buy larger 90-91 clutch

Thanks.
Well seeing as its a '91 motor, wouldn't it have a '91 flywheel? Sorry, I'm kind of a noob when it comes to clutches. Is there any way to tell what year the MOTOR is for sure?

91 transmission will fit 88 if you use 89 clutch (if your 88 is Si) - if it is not Si, then you need 89 clutch and 89 flywheel or 90-91 clutch and 90-91 flywheel

if the car is an 88 dx, and you put in a 91 tranny, will the tranny have any compatability problems with the axle, or will it just have problems with the clutch and flywheel?
