Default power loss/ eletrical short?

i havnt got a clue about electrical systems so bare with me.

driving home today, the cd player started flickering and the code comes up, heard a clicking coming from glovebox/ecu area. and i noticed the mph gauge drop, and the clock resets, ive been having problems with the ABS light but i dont think this is the same thing. ill prob be needing a new battery shortly, but i dont think its that because the car starts. dont think its the alternator because, while driving and the power dims or whatever it does, the car doesnt turn off. the lights dim when i roll the window or turn the heat on. and since the abs light is coming on im thinking it has to do with maybe the abs motor relay. any help as to what it is or how to fix it where to look, how much it will cost to fix....

Well after your car is started your alternator pretty much does all the work for the electrical system. I would go to your local checker/autozone etc and get your alternator tested. You may also want to check your battery connections if its a loose terminal it might cause a "breaK' in the system. Check it out.

Well I don't know how old your car is ......but if its under warranty, the dealer would do the warranty work if those parts didn't cause the problem (more than likely they didn't).

You need to check a couple of things here.
Using a multimeter:

Take a reading of your battery. should be around 12.5V

Then, with the engine running, turn on the blower motor and the high beams ( or other electrical accessories to place a load on the charging system).
Increase and hold engine speed to 2000 rpm.
Measure the voltage reading at the battery.
The voltage should increase at least 0.5 volts from the voltage test. If the voltage does not meet specifications, the charging system is malfunctioning.

then check all wiring from and to the alternator for loose contacts and that sorta thing...

THen, if wiring checks well, replace alternator..

Sounds like a possible voltage regulator problem. An alternator check at auto parts store should determine that. The dimming lights and drop in power are a sure sign of it. are
