Weighed my hatch today
Me and my buddy who drives a 91 CRX HF went down to the garbage dump today. WE told the guys we wanna wigh the cars they were cool with. However i think those scales are only accurate to 100 lbs. cause it said the CRX weighs 2100 and my 91 STD hatch weighs 2200. My car is kinda porky cause i have a WW body kit, two speakers in the hatch in a box, a 5spd tranny and AC. Overall im not disapointed. I was impressed by how light my friends CRX is, it has a b16 swap and full interior. As far as weight reduction i want some advice from u guys, heres what im thinkin so far:
Free: All AC components, including that box behind the glovebox
All heater components (ill buy some Rain X, P.S. i live in SoCal)
Windshield wiper canister and fluid
Grind down the unecesarry metal on the rear bumper support
$$$$: Smaller battery
CF hood
Eg radiator
Thats all i can think of, should be around.......120 pounds right there, while still having the appearance of full interior. I was also wondering if rear disk brakes are heavier then the drum ones, i kinda want discs in the back, whats the weight difference? And if anyone can think of anythin alse let me know.

you could actually guy your bumpers, but if you get in a accident...
Doing the Teg rear disk swap will increase weight, drums are lighter, and disks dont provide any additional stopping power and are not needed.
Take out your interior and remove all the sound deatening, i know in the back of my crx there was a piece under the spare tire there that must weighted 20lbs, plus i riped it all out from under the interior.
Take out spare and jack. You can go as far as gutting the inside of the doors.
But some people dont like going that far because if you ever get in a accident its like your riding in a tin can.
Get creative.
Thoese scales at the dumps are very accurate.

You said those scales are accurate...it doesnt strike you as a coincidence that both are cars wighed at exactly 100 pounds. 2100 and 2200. That would be a crazy coincedence. I dont want to remove soubd deadebibg, cause this is my daily driver. Guess im keepin the drums!
Of course the scaled are accurate. Thats how they make there money.
They weight you when you go in and when you leave, whatever the difference is you pay like 15cents/pound.
If it just randomly jumped between 100 pounds from car to car they would have lots of times where they lose money and/or charged people like 20 bucks for dumping a lawnmower. I would guess they wouldnt be off by anything over 10 pounds. The 10 pounds being from maybe air pushing down on the car?
Maybe they were just ******* with you and gave you a random number?

i weighted my car on the scales at my dads buddy scrap yard.
The thing is so accurate i could stand on this huge metal scaled musta been 80 ft long, weight me to the pound, me and my dad same thing.
These things are calibrated awesome.
I think your car mighta been like 2152 or something and they just said 2100 and same with your buddys.

hmmm...i dont know then. I should put something that weighs like 10 pounds in my car and come back. Any more weight reduction ideas? Oh, i thought of another one, im replacing that wooden spare tire cover thing that always bends with a thin sheet of styrofoam.
Im the same guy that started this thread BTW, just at friends house. I just read that 88 doors will save weight. How much if i get both will it save? In case anyone knows.
not jsut the doors, but the door to pillar mounted seatbelt conversion is what will save youw weight. It also requires some minor welding though. Not an easy task, i dont think its been done much.

My 91 HF with a B16, full interior, A/C, WW body kit, 14" steelies, no jack or spare and 1/4 gas weighed in at 2370 with me in it. So the car weighs 2210 by itself.
Now that's porky.

I am also in so-cal, with a hb and I have or dont have--
no a/c
no heater
no front bumper support
no rear bumper support
recently took out rear seats and rear panels
battery moved to rear right
no windshield washer squirters or fluid/canister
I use a spray bottle and tshirt as my climate controls and windshield cleaner...
spray bottle on hot day=a/c
spray bottle+t-shirt=window cleaner
t-shirt in firewall hole=heater off
remove t-shirt from firewall hole=heater on
t-shirt=defroster
t-shirt=driver side seat cover
The worst part about no climate controls is-
1. hot summer days I need to take slurpee breaks all the time
2. when it rains, theres no defrost for front windshield, only t-shirt
3. colder days i need to leave an extra jacket in the car and drive with a beanie on
4. remembering that it ever existed!
My hatch is black and shelled out and only about 1 out of 10people even notice, and I have no tint

lol, i love it. Ill be a little more advanced then that. Rain X for defrosting. honestly ive never liked AC. Rolled down windows have always been better.
MY baby just lost 50 lbs. I pulled out all the underhood AC components, those weighed 43 lbs. all together. PLus i removed the windhield wiper fluid canister. The actual canister wasnt very heavy but the water inside weighed about 6 pounds. Thats 50 pounds saved, and i still havent removed the AC box behind the dash, thats another easy 15 lbs. I weighed the battery...30 LBS!!! Thats a heavy beast. Theres about 20 ponds to be saved by switching to a small battery, like i plan on doing. My car sits about 1/2 inch higher now too, the jack used to scrape the front bumper but now it clears it with room to spare.
Just removed the Evaporator from behind the glovebox, only 10 lbs. but a fairly easy removal. So anyone know how much lighter a 88 door assebly would be?
Sweet i have a 88 SI.
Except i gutted all the things that makes the SI heavier.
Sunroof and motor
AC
CF hood
Rear wiper and motor
Sound deating
Trimmed bumper beams
