MY FIRST POST! I HAVE few QUESTIONs TO TEG EXPERTS!!!
1)I have a 95 LSSE auto, and I would Like to convert it to GSR tranny. What GSR parts do I need to make the conversion sussessful? Please LIST THEM ALL.
2)People say it's better to go with a JDM GSR tranny because of Legal issue and paperwork for a USDM GSR tranny. Is that true? why?
3)Do I have to reregister(DMV) my TEggie after the swap as a GSR? how would I do it IF I had the jdm GSR engine in it? bcause my viN# will be different from the engine.
4) What is the consequences of not reporting the swap to the DMV or Insurance? Will they know? anyone done that?
5)how much is a price different if the swap is an R instead. and all the parts?
thanks.

1. to convert to a gsr tranny...runs about $1300-$1600 depends on where u get it from, plus you got to figure out if you want cable or hydro..
hydro more expensive, i believe you need the tranny, slave cylinder, master cylinder, clutch, shift linkage and some other things...
2. i don't think it really matters pertaining to legal issue, but i'm not 100%
3. i believe you do have to register with dmv, swap is legal if its the same year or newer, if you want to pass smog, make sure you have all your o2 sensor working..
4. i don't know, but i don't want to find out...
5. the R tranny is bank...the tranny itself with LSD runs about $1300 cheapest i've seen, get a LS tranny for your year...it all depends on what your going to do to your engine also...
well hope that helps...

well to start off let me ask you are you going to be staying N/A or going turbo sometime in the future. i ask this because if you are going to stay N/A i suggest getting the gsr tranny for its tight gearing ( downside you will be reving higher when on the freeways) and for turbo get a ls tranny ( longer gears great for spooling up turbos)
make sure to get a hydraulic tranny it will be easier of a swap. As mentioned above you will need the tranny parts and so forth. While the tranny is out of the car it would be a good idea to get ( if you have the funds) a stronger clutch and flywheel, or lsd.
i've seen a few post where people have done this swap and they cant get their reverse lights going so make sure you know who the installer is and know their work ( saves headaches in the long run) good luck

thanks again, I'm not thinking of going turbo. Why is hydraulic tranny better or easier to swap? While the old tranny is out and before they install the new one, what should be done underthehood at the same time? belts, calipers etc?
how they not get the reverse light after the swap?
well, my budget is around 4-5k.
