Someone give me some quick tips on distributor install after theft
Hey, my dizzy got stolen a week ago and I just received the replacement via fedex.
My question is this...how do I know which direction to instal it? As in the metal tabs on the dizzy that slide into the head of the engine can go 2 ways (one way, then spin it 180 for the other way) How do I know what cylinder it was on in the first place?????
I know I can pop off dizzy cap and see what wire the rotor is pointed at....but really won't help me.
This is on a 96 gsr by the way, not that it really matters.
I'm thinking if I install it, crank it and it doesn't start right, then just pop it back off, spin 180 degrees and reinstall. I don't think this could really harm anything could it?

Take all of the spark plugs out and then place your finger over the number 1 cylinder. Use a ratchet to spin the crank pulley until you feel compression on the number 1 cylinder. Then you'll know that it will be the one firing next. Then just put the distributor in pointing just before the number 1 spark plug. Since theres only 2 ways for it to go in, it shouldn't be that hard.
