please help motor mount questions
first off i have a 97 prelude base model and a couple of weeks ago it had to get alligned so i took it to the shop. when i picked the car up they said my upper motor mount was going bad and that it made a popping/ cracking noise when you let out the clutch in 1st and 2nd. i hadnt noticed the noise before it went to the shop but now i do and it seems to be getting worse. anyway i have a couple of questions, the shop told me to call honda and see if there was a recall about the mounts in 97 because they shouldnt be going bad at 68k so if any ones knows that would be great and second a friend of mine told me about urithane bushing by energy suspension, are they good? do they have them for 5th gen ludes? where can i buy them? any input would be apprishiated
Upper motor mount? That doesn't really make sense - there's a rubber front & rear mount, hydraulic driver's side mount, and a rubber tranny mount. I'm not aware of any recalls, but you can check http://www.alldata.com for your year & model to get a listing of TSB's & recalls.
The ES motor mounts are polyurethane inserts for the front & rear, they're designed to stiffen up the stock mounts (actually sold for the 4th gen Prelude, but they fit the 97+ ones as well). So if the metal casting on the stock mount is broken, they won't help any. But they do a good job of stiffening up tired rubber, if that's all that's wrong. If something's "popping," it may be more serious.
So find out exactly what part is going bad, and get back to us. If you search around here, you should find plenty of discussion on the topic.
