b16a1(jdm) vs. b16a2(usdm) swap
i was wondering how much more difficult is it to swap a b16a2 into my 90' CRX Si.....i know wut is required for the jdm b16a but i have heard it is slightly more difficult for the b16a2.....why is this and and what r the extra things that r needed? TIA!!
by jdm do you mean the 170 hp hydro tranny b16a? If so you have to convert it to pre obd by using a pre obd dist or b18a dist with one of the arms chopped off. A prc/ pwo ecu pre obd. and a cable tranny.
If you just mean a cable tranny b16a its easier than the hydro tranny b16a.
If you just mean a cable tranny b16a its easier than the hydro tranny b16a.
sorry i meant the jdm b16a1(cable)....i know that the usdm b16a2(hydro) will be harder but i was wondering how much harder? the reason being is that i thought it would be more reliable to do the usdm one cus i can check the hystory of it and also it will only a couple years old whereas the jdm one would be like 12 years old.....thnx!
when you say harder do you mean converting it? because if you guys think that is the case then you have another things coming for ya. i personally would go with either one that ws cheaper. it is the same engine. so how ever much youwanna pay.
Yeah...okay.....umm.....similar but not the same. The USDM motors are slightly more powerful (3hp, give or take), and it's nice to actually know that you're not getting an automatic b16a (for some of you....we didn't have those here!). But as far as ease and cost, the jdm b16a is my pick. It will drop right in with a mount kit and four wires (in an Si), assuming you have the entire swap including ECU. I wouldn't spend the extra money on a usdm B16a2. You've got to either make the grey plugs on that motor work with your factory harness or try to make the obd2 ecu work that comes with the b16a2 complete swap. If you use your harness, you've got to make that engine work with pre-obd electronics. That means that you need to change distributors, injectors, harness plugs, etc...And then you have to convert to hydro or sell that hydro tranny and get a jdm cable Y1/S1/J1/whatever. It's all more complicated than just dropping it in with a mount kit and running 4 wires. The b16a is the way to go. I'm really tired and I hope that made sense; I've just seen complications and some nasty-looking hydraulic EFs. That's why I just tossed a b16a in mine. Cheapest and easiest.
i was talking aobut the hydro tranny. you said exactly what i was talking about. people think that you had to convert all this crap just to have a swap with a hydrop tranny when you can sell it and by the cable one. that is what iwas talking about
Yeah, that would be cool. It just takes a bit longer to convert/buy/sell everything, but it might turn out to be comparable in price if you can get decent money for the hydro tranny you sell.
