Help with a friends 97 prelude
I have a friend that owns a 97 prelude...I try to get him to join h-t but he claims he is busy and he is meaning to get around to it.
Anyways...He bought a 97 prelude like less than 5 months ago and everything checked out ok...it had no problems and he got a real good deal.
He just installed an alarm a few days ago and when he got the car back he noticed a few things. When the car is in idle, it will rev to about 2.5k then back down to 1k then back to about 2.5k again...and this continues until he actaully gives the car gas.
Now he doesnt think it has anything to do with the alarm install, and neither do i. The guy who installed it said because he owns a civic si, he knows its the IAC vavle.
So he got me to drive it around to see if I noticed anything weird. Not that I know much about preludes, thats why Im asking for help here, But when im every gear, the car will start t stutter like it wants to stall out. In first its real hard, then through every gear its not as harsh, but it still stutters.
I know the trick with the paper clip to throw the code, but I didnt want to mess with his car any, so he takes it to autozone where they do it, basically the guy told him it was his idle control system.
So basically he knows kinda what the problem is. He knew I was a member on here and asked if I could ask the prelude guys If they knew what was wrong, and that he appreciated the help.
He has had the car for a short time and has already had to rebuild the front end, take the car back to best buy numerous times for his alarm which was installed wrong almost everytime, so his luck with it hasnt been all that great.
He would just like to know if anyone could help so fixing this could be smooth as possible.
Thanks in advance

be carefl to make sure the intake is cleanable before you go shooting spray intake cleaner into the thorttle body or IAC ports....apparently IAC's on ludes like to go crazy, as mine is too....
Well he took it to a friends shop..
I told him about the valve and all. He got his alarm installed at best buy, and I wouldnt think anything would really go wrong.
The guy who installed it drilled a hole in the firewall to run wires I guess, but must of had a long drillbit, he drilled a whole in the brake booster and some other stuff. So now he is trying to get best buy to pay for the damages.
We'll see what will happen..
Thanks for the help though evryone
