It's a big desission to switch to FI or to do some serious NA work. So what were your reasons for doing what you did, and do you regret doing it?

I stuck with NA simply because I didnt have the time to deal with the maintenence and headaches of a boosted car. 200 whp NA is AOK with me.

well I've been in a boosted gsr before and it felt awesome, but the truth of the matter is that I really don't drive my car hard at all. There's also a large initial investment that has to be made when buying all the turbo parts...

I was thinking that if I went NA, I'd be happy with ~200whp...

I just can't decide

I was going to stay NA, and I wasn't getting enough power. So I went with a 55 shot of nitrous. THen I became addicted to refilling the bottle every two weeks and it became way too expensive. I decided to just invest in a supercharger and it drives sooo much better.

I am a guy who liks to get more for his $. turbo was just more for the $. I tried everything, i went mild allmotor, nitrous, supercharger, and finally saw the light.

Just to note this is my second turbo setup, and i learned alot from the first one. This time i planned everythign out, did everythiggn right, and i have had zero problems in 7 months of boosting. Only maintenece i do is change my oil and my plugs more freqenutly and check for anything abnormal under my hood. I've never even had an exhuast leak, or a pipe blow off.

My complete Turbo setup, from exhuast, down to tuning, the nuts and bolts, everything was just under 4k, all new parts, proven parts, no junkyard parts here and for 4k my car is making 271/253 reliably, to me that is cost effective. I wanted that endless potential that turbo has, theres always room to grow, so many options to customize exactly what you want.

I'll bet my 401k, that I may never own another Na car i my lifetime.

i completely agree with quickb18b...the $$ to power ratio on a turbo car is just unbeatable...people always say the reliability issue is far more expensive then staying NA, but most of the time the reason something happens is the person had a half assed boost set up...if you religiously keep up with your maintainance and have a properly well tunned set up, then it'll almost as reliable as an NA set up...

250whp is my goal, but i just cant see myself dumping NA mods when i can get a properly tunned boosted set up for about the same price....

All the NA guys, please dont take this offensively as i have the upmost respect to those that can build at 200+whp NA inline 4...

yeah and not to mention irresponsible owners. 2 years ago everyone was running around on fmu's and boost controllers= Kaboom

things have changed in the last year, so many knowledgable tuners, more aftermarket, better parts. alot of the responsibility lies on the owners, fact is Turbo has more parts, therefore more parts that can fail. so if you don't know what your doing, then it's disaster waiting to happen.

I just like Infinity Racer I have tons of respect for fast Na cars, its just not for me.

Okay not to get off topic but heres quick rundown.

Precision sc34 turbo .63 a/r
Precision Intercooler
Inline pro Mani
Revhard 2.5-3" custom downpipe
3" full custom n1 Exhuast
Hondata 2b
550cc Rc injectors
Stock motor, stock intake manifold

14.5 psi =271/253 on a very conservative tune.

all motor because horse power is worth the work. it is also much more difficult to get high numbers out of all motor which makes it that much more gratifying when you do. anyone can buy a turbo not everyone has the time, patience, and knowledge to go n/a. not to knock turbo i just feel up to the challenge for all motor.

what the hell does that have to do with anything? I rode in a low 11 second boosted WRX for 1 hour and fell asleep.

I rode in a 10second N/A Viper and almost **** myself.

It's all a matter of opinion.

you'll alwayz get respect if you beat a turbo car with an all motor car.. it seems like everybodys going turbo these days and built n/a are starting to become extincted.. every time i go to the track its alwayz turbo cars, and when i beat them there really suprised i'm all motor! great feeling, being diffrent.. a 200whp all motor car will always beat a 200whp turbo car... but yeh i'm starting to feel the need of boost! =op my set up cost about 3500 if you find the right deals, also had a machineshop build and assembly the motor which i can now do myself.. if you can build a motor urself the cost will be much cheaper..

Originally I wanted all motor, but realized that it was too expensive and I wasnt into drag racing. On the other hand, my turbo setup is great for my needs and I still had some money in my pocket at the end of the day. Even till this day I still dont have enough money for all motor , so turbo was a great choice

Why I went NA: A 3rd to 2nd gear misshift resulted in bent valves, so my head had to be pulled. My friend was selling camshafts and gears at a great price, another selling an ITR valvetrain also at a great price, so now I'm "NA." I guess it was just the way the bottle spilled. I'm not sure how far I want to go with this, maybe just some pistons, better I/IM/H/C/E combo, and definitely tuning... we'll see.

Honestly though, If someone gave me ~$5k to dump all at once into my motor, I'd probably be turbo right now...

A question for you turbo guys: are you able to drive the car how you want to whenever you want to? I drive my car pretty much daily, and must hit redline quite a few times throughout the day. Are you able to do this with turbo?

Went supercharger cause it was the easiest method of increasing power, bang for buck that is.

Currently just shy of 250rwhp with the 1.9L engine. That's more than 150% increase in power. The current setup is possibly the most powerful street legal BMW 318 in the world. We're aiming for 272rwhp when we're finished.
