Default Just put in GM Synchromesh

I just had GM Synchromesh (#12345349) put in my transmission and what a difference. I wasn't experiencing a grind or anything, but over the last 12-18 months I've noticed my transmission wasn't nearly as smooth as it used to be. It used to feel like there was noticable resistance going into each gear, paticularly the 1-2 and 2-3 shift. That is now gone. It doesn't feel notchy anymore. Just thought I would give you guys that were thinking about trying it the good word.

Do you think this stuff will fix my problem of not being able to put my car into first gear until I come to a complete stop?? That is SOOO annoying!

When I am just coasting 1-2 mphs (too slow for 2nd) I am locked out form putting it into 1st. AS SOON as I stop....it slides right into gear with no problems.

I am just curious. I am dropping my H22 swap in soon and will use the GM synchromesh when that goes in too.

again... FYI if you want to save $5/Qt go to a car parts store and get Penzoil Sychromesh MTF. It is the exact same stuff. Made in the same place. If you look into it on Penzoils page they even give you the GM part number.

no it will not change that. Every car I have driven has been like that. No 1st until you are under like 20MPH. I think it's something to do with keeping you from misshifting or something....

mine seems to go into first a little easier (not really a problem before). You can get around your problem by "double clutching" I believe it is called.... Anyway, when your rolling (5mph ish) and it won't go into first try...
1. leave it in nuetral
2. let clutch out
3. push clutch back in
4. attempt to put in 1st again

This works 95% of the time for me. I've found that you need to master this skill when autocrossing.

That is exactly what I try. Still doesn't work.

I mean.....if the car is moving at all....I will SLIGHTLY try pushing it into gear with the clutch in while the car is coming to a stop....it blocks me out.....the when the car COMPLETELY stops.......I can slide it right into gear.

Oh well. No one has been able to explain this to me. I even rode in Behan's (Steve) Prelude and he was able to put his car into 1st while we were going 20-25mph. He has a 93 VTEC.

Thanks for the heads up. I will buy the Penzoil Synchromesh.

I put penzoil synchromesh in about a month ago. I didn't have anything wrong with my tranny but I wanted to try it anyways. It made a noticeable difference, It got rid of the tough time putting the car in first when it was cold and made every gear feel a lot smoother. I bought 3 bottles just in case but it only took about 2 bottles to fill it up.

Is the GM Synchromesh a additive, or complete replacement (drain all tranny fluid and replace)?

Its a Manual Transmission Fluid. AKA Drain and fill.

Double clutch sucka, I can always get mine to down shift into first (even at 20 mph) if i double clutch it, it saves on the syncros too

Already tried that. No success.

Already tried that. In fact...I pump the clutch like 10 times and tried it. Still did not help.

The GM guys call the syncromesh liquid gold...so u know its good stuff. Andy, the correct way to double clutch is...
1.Push clutch in
2.Shift into nuetral
3.Let clutch out
4.Push clutch in again(blip throttle)
5.Shift into gear

hope that helps!

Seems like I see some of the Type R guys used the "Friction Modified" GM Synchromesh for there trannys. They might be able to offer more insight on using these fluids on factory LSDs

In case anyone is interested, I have a case of GM Synchromesh I bought when I had my 93 Prelude VTEC. Unfortunately, I have an auto tranny car now so I have no need for it. I'll sell it for $10 a bottle.

Andy - has this always been happening or just recently? In my car is seems like when I'm coming to a complete stop (but still going 1-2mph) it goes to 1st easier than if I'm at a complete stop, ie. at a complete stop there is notchyness and requires some effort, but @ 1 or 2 mph it just slides in like butter. Was your car like this before? If so then the GM stuff might be worth a try.

Im planning to change with Honda mtf when I get a magnetic tranny plug, use it for a few months, see if i get any shavings out, and change the fluid again. I dont have any grinds but if the notchyness wont go away after changing to Honda's mtf I'll probably try the GM. Is there any downsides anyone can think of to using Synchromesh? Like is it too thin or something?

The honda prelude was made so that you would have to come to a complete or almost complete stop for it to go in to gear. That is common thing for the 97+ Preludes but not quite sure on the others. Sorry to get off topic. But the Gm synchromesh is kick *** thou.
My cousin just put it in his tranny at first there was little notice but after about 500 miles you can really tell.
