Which cam for my Y8
I was looking at putting the Street/strip cam in my Y8 head but the ones that I find are for the Z6 and I was wondering if they were the same. Also if I put this cam in will I need to upgrade my springs and all of that. Also do I need to change my valves. I would really appreciate any brands that might be helpful and prices at where they can be found. Also if anyone has any good write ups on how to get the timing correct, I would appreciate it. I will take suggestions on other cams also. Thanks

stock cam...and turbo
. no ok im just kidding. id reccomend the crower st2 as was said above or the zex street/strip. with both cams you will need at least upgraded vavlesprings and an adjustable cam gear. if you decide to get a cam made for a z6, you need to (advance i think) the timing about 4 degrees. also if u are getting a cam it woulndt hurt to raise your rev limit a few hundred more rpms, cause aftermarket cams make power higher in the rpm range than stock. i hope i was at least semi-useful. good luck with your choice

I have the zex stage 2 cam thats made for the z6 in my y8 right now. You will need to degree this cam if you get it for your y8 if you want to find the exact 0 degree mark in your motor. I've had a lot of trouble getting mine in time, but I think I have it set close to where it should be now. The difference between the y8 and z6 cams is that the z6 cams keyways are 5 degrees retarded from the y8 cam's keyways. If you just use a z6 cam gear you shouldn't have to make a correction on this because the z6 cam gear will already be retarded those 5 degrees. Most aftermarket camgears are made to z6 specs anyways regardless of whether or not they say they are for a y8. The only exception I know of is the aem cam gears. After fooling around with my cam I have found that the 0 degree mark on the cam is probably around 5 or 6 degrees advanced on my z6 cam gear...i know it sounds crazy, but I could only get 6 degrees of ignition advance with the cam set at 0! I have read up on this a lot and everybody sais you should really get the cam degreed to find out where the actual 0 degrees is because i have heard of people degreeing this cam and finding the 0 degree mark even more advanced on the gear in their setup. Technically it should be at 0 with my setup, but it most certaintly isn't. If I could do it again I would probably buy the crower stage 2 cam for the y8 just because it probably doesn't have as many timing issues and is made for the y8 and I have just heard so many good things about this cam. Don't get me wrong though...the zex stage 2 is a great cam and also makes similar power to the crower stage 2.
check out the crower website and look at the stage 2 cam, but you would want to replace your valvesprings and retainers and they also have those on the crower site. good luck
So if I get a Z6 cam and a Z6 gear it should drop in my Y8 head fine and be close to time. Also how hard is it to change valve springs? I have never done this so any info is appreciated. Also what if I put a Y8 cam and Y8 gear in should I have any problems. Also when timing it where should I start. My head will be assembled and then swapped on so do I need to set at TDC and then set cam at 0 or what? Thanks for the info

if you have the z6 cam + z6 cam gear combo in a y8 head then i would go ahead and set your timing at 0 degrees and tune from there. I have this combo and I have found that the actual 0 degree of the cam is around 5 or 6 degrees advanced on the cam gear so 0 probably won't be right for you.
