Is the Mugen lighter than OEM? What is OEM made out of?

oem is made out of alum and is heaviest. Glass rear window. Mugen fiberglass and carbon have lexan rear windows. They are lighter, carbon being lightest and I can say the carbon is light enough that I could install and remove the top by myself. OEM requires 2 people and is not very light unless you strip the hell out of it.

I've helped a friend of mine install his and I don't remember it being heavy, but would be very difficult to put on/take off by yourself just b/c of the size. Being lighter would help a lot though. Anyone have weights for these?

Exactly the same. The cf has cf weave and is clear coated on top with a semi-gloss clear on the interior

The Mugen FRP is actually almost as heavy as OEM however hard to believe that is. It is more aerodynamic though. The longer slope in the back helps direct air to the trunk area thus a smaller wing can be as efficient in producing downforce without causing as much drag as a tall wing.

The Mugen CF is around 15lbs lighter than OEM I believe.

The OEM isn't heavy, it's just bulky.

Soft top stays for OEM, I'm sure it's the same for the Mugen as well. Oh, and for an S2K newb, what is an FRP?

You can leave the soft top for both.

FRP = Fiberglass Replacement?

I believe FRP = Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic. Veilside uses this as well.

I gotta beg to differ, the OEM is noticably heavier compared to the carbon mugen I had. Not sure if 15lbs would be a good estimate as I last heard that number was with the oem top completely stripped of upholstery. Side-by-side, the mugen carbon was much lighter.

If you order the OEM hardtops from hardtopguy.com, you can specify the color to match your S2K...
