As the title implies, what are you street tire guys are running these days on your R's? The season is just around the corner and wanted to start shopping for new shoes for this season. BTW, I've searched and read everyone else's answers
. Just wanted to get a few recent opinions if possible.
Mods, just trying to retrieve ITR specific responses. thx, Matt.

Define "best". Best dry traction? Best handling? Best for the drag strip? Best for autocross? Should price be a factor? What about wet traction? Cold weather or warm? How about treadlife?
Any tire is a trade-off among ALL these factors (and probably a few more that I missed). No tire is best at everything. Decide what your priorities are, and then you can find one that meets YOUR needs best.

Yeah, I guess "best" is very subjective. Sorry to toss the word out assuming everyone thinks the way I do
. I race Street Tire autocross in a stock '97 (as username implies) and am looking for a super grippy tire with excellent dry traction and good braking. Wear isn't really and issue but price is, <$100 tire preferably. I have about five autocrosses under my belt and want to continue holding my own and having fun of course.
I've been though a few sets of Azenis and was very pleased. I just got the '97 with RE92's and I don't think they are too performance-oriented. Unfortunately, I haven't had much to compare to. Suggestions welcome.

If you are running in STX, basically youre 2 best options are Azenis or Kumho MX's. Both are about the same price (~$70ish) and IHMO are the only 2 tires to consider in a street tire class.
The Azenis do great but get a bit greasy when hot (many people bring a sprayer to cool them off between runs).
The MX's also do great, but require more "braking in" to get to their best grip levels. Ive heard the Natl level drivers get the MX shaved a'la a R compound tire and had outstanding results. Also the MX seems to thrive on the higher temps unlike the Azenis.

Sweet. That's the type of info. I was looking for. There's a guy with a PY R that races at the national level with those Kumhos. Those are probably going to be next on #50.
You should do a search in the competition forum....these tire comparisons are done at nauseam over there seemingly weekly.
