How is your auto ss tranny holding up??? for the 5 gen ludes
I and planning on putting a turbo in my prelude, i was wonder how the ss shifts if you have a turbo, does it shift fast enough?? or is it to slow?? and what bout the ats??? I NEED HELP
search, starting point. There is a user : sharkcohen, who owns a 5th gen ss with a blower. Let me just say, it will not last long...as in few weeks to months but not for long. That transmission is a piece of s*.
I own one and jrsc is the only thing i am aiming at, but turbo is like asking for trouble on this particular subject.

first off if you have a ss you do not have atts, sh only has that, i had a 97 ss that i turboed with a drag 3 kit, i ran about 9 psi through it , the motor ran awesome, the tranny never ever held all the power, i had it rebuilt and it still did not have the holding capacity, i would strongly recommend putting that money towards building a motor for turbo because the stock ones are not exactly the best platform, i sold the turboed ss and never looked back, i have a 98 sh and i am going na, if you really want to go turbo do it right the first time
just my 30 cents
just my 30 cents
either way, don't do it, unless you have money to rebuild and put better parts in it. Honestly get yourself an H22 with a manual and swap the engines and sell the original.
That transmission is not going to hold up , UNLESS you only punch it once in a while and not every damn time.
In another words, do a swap.

shudup...hey, i got a question: i am "thinking" about putting it on my lude ss as well, but do i really need an exhaust to go along with it or? I read the post from about two months ago and you said that you noticed the gains on the dyno with just stock headers and exhaust.
The reason i ask this is because if i can get away with just what it comes and perhaps install a Apexi WS along with it and be done. I am not a real big racer but i'd get it for the more response and some pickup from time to time, it'd be nice.
Are you selling yours?

man just get yourself a manual. Whats the fun in putting your foot down. No heel toeing no double clutching? Thats not really driving.
when my tranny first broke I got a replacement tranny.. I went ahead and set my TC to level 10 for upgrade.. It has held up for 2 and half years.. without a rebuild. But Im about to boost it and well my plan this time around is order the rebuild kit and then get a new TC from another company. Im also running full synthetic fluids for the tranny.. Im getting my new tranny done this week. I will let you guys know how well it will hold up to boost.

You don't NEED to upgrade the exhaust, but of course it helps.
No, mine is not for sale.

How long do you think it would take for the tran to blow??? enought time to get money for the mt, im not planning to push it all the time oh and how much do you think a good mt tranny and assories would cost??
on times, it all depends, the % on auto tranny failing is at 40% for the ss one. Honestly, if you just treat the car nice and tap the gas from time to time, it is probably going to hold up for a while, sharkcohen is an example. I believe his signature says otherwise.
Tranny work with all parts could run from $1800 to $3000 installed (chicago market). As for south( you), i dunno. There were a couple of trannys running around here for sale, one is by some guy in Canada, the others are from california. Expect to pay from $700 2 $1200 for one.
I called http://www.importautosalvage.com and hmotorsonline.com and they both rated me at $700 for a stock one non-lsd.
I asked the importauto sales rep, if i were to purchase ALL the swap parts from them, the bill would ring at $1200 'PLUS' shipping (bastards).
so go figure. I am not doing the swap, as long as it holds and i baby the biot*h i may be ok. Although, the jrsc is ringing in my ears and perhaps will buy it towards the end of the year (who knows).
Good luck whichever way you go.

well, it is good if you are at a drag strip, other than that, i "believe" it to be the main cause of the ss trannys to fail. That is just me.
It will help to redline, but you will kill your engine and transmission that way.
Just get the blower and take it easy, don't go too crazy, ok. First, research more on it. Then decide what to do,
If you fear of it failing, start looking for 5 speed preludes.
