Wrecked GSR for 1500... Is this a good deal?
I know someone who is selling a 92 GSR with bigtime driverside damage, enough so that the door will not even open. The engine sounds alright, still pulls strong - just some minor leaks. There is a higher rpm third gear grind. The enterior all seams alright, everything is in pretty good condition except for the entire side of the car is a big dent. I would want the car just for the engine, tranny, ecu ect - is it possible to get my money back from parting the rest of the car. Thanks for the help.
I wouldn't buy it to drive it. I'd buy it, rip out the drivetrain and put it in an EF. Then I'd take other things like the interior components, wheels, glass, body pieces, etc and sell them.

Call one of those scrap companies that picks up junk cars for free. Or get a sawzall and hack it into a hundred pieces and throw them in your trunk a few at a time, then drive around and throw the pieces in various dumpsters around town.
A light 3rd gear grind might come out by switching to GM Synchromesh manual transmission fluid. As for the engine leaking, that's another story. I suggest you figure out exactly what's leaking and go from there. Even if it's something major, like a headgasket, it's still a relatively easy and cost effective fix.
I don't really think it's worth it. I know someone that is selling a 94 GS-r, everything looks awesome, paint still shines like new. Only bad part is he has 256000 miles on it. But he is selling it around 1100.

depends on the condition of the engine. i would buy it if it has low miles/kms that would be a good deal, but don't waist your time on a warn out engine just to spend a crap load of more money on the rebuild.

Doesnt sound like a very good deal to me, a motor with over 100,000 miles and a grinding cable tranny doesnt sound like its worth it.
engines can be rebuilt for hella cheaper than buying a "used JDM 30k miles" engine.
plus that ys1 tranny, grinding or not can be rebuilt with USDM Acura parts for relatively cheap.

You obviously haven't priced tranny parts lately.
May I ask where the 92 gsr is located?
