Default JDM 96 Spec 4 and 5 Gears.

Hi,

I need to lower the gear ratios of my car, i have the 4.785 fd but with the longer 4 and 5 gears, 1.034 and 0.787 respectively.

What i am looking for are the JDM 96 Spec 4th and 5th gears, 1.107 and 0.848 repectively.

This modification is done a lot on JDM 98 Spec tranny's in japan (eg. Phase Racing etc..)

I have searched and searched......and it seems that the USDM ITR Gear boxes (like yours guys !) have these shorter 4th and 5th gears.

EG Civic SIR gear boxes here in Malta are not too hard to find....do you think that these gears would be the same as yours as regards the part #'s please?

It seems the ratios are the same, but i wanted to double check with you, could it be that they are the same ratio but they have different part #'s for the Type R please?.....maybe the Type R gears have a special coating or something ?

Also would you be wary of buying used gears form an EG SIR Tranny cause of any grinds or other please?

Is there a way to check the gears before installing them to be sure that they are still strong ?

Thanks you for your help.....

From my reading the 96 JDM and USDM transmissions are the exact same. Using B16 gears could be a quick way to achieve that as well, but I do believe ITR trannies are slightly different in regards to syncros. I'm not positive if its for all gears or just 1-3 (or if at all).

You can use the gears from the B16 tranny, though the R gears are different, I'm not too sure about coatings, but the physical size of the gear is slightly smaller on the JDM 98+spec trannines and the USDM GSR for ceratin. I'm quite confident that the B16 woud be the same as the USDM GSR in regards to this. The ratios are the same, just the physical size in regard to diameter (and we're talking .0xmm), as long as you are using the gears on both the input and output shafts it will not be an issue. The easiest way to see the condition of a gear is to make sure that the teeth are square, it is very hard to ruin a gear, and would take a long term of abuse, and would be apparent upon inspection.

Hi,

I have e mailed sunnyside acura parts.

And they told me that i would be possibly needing the final drive.

Why is that ?......can anyone confirm that i only need the USDM 4th and 5th gears (counter and main shafts), that is 4 gears in total for my application please.
