Default Newbie to bikes, gear question.

Hello, I am the new proud owner of a 04' R6. I haven't been riding on the street much so I don't have any real gear for my bike (let alone anything that matches it...) SO I would like to know what jacket you guys would recommend that is reasonablly priced and is still safe. Safety is of my utmost importance but I do want something that looks ok as well. I really like the Alpinestar Venom jaket; however, I don't want to spend quite $500 either. The Joe Rocket Mercury/COmet jackets look to be nice and well priced, but are they safe? OR, what would you recomend for something safe, looks alright, and is reasonablly priced (trying for under $300 if possible) Please give a new rider a little bit of guidance here. Thanks.

PS -- Bike is blue, or else I'd buy the jackets on here for sale!!!

Thanks,

Sean C.

Congratulations! Welcome to the club.

As for gear, I hope you saved the lion's share for a helmet. The Joe Rocket jackets are decent quality and inexpensive. Stylistically, it's all up to you. I would recommend a two-piece suit because the jacket can be used separately. If you buy from New Enough (http://www.newenough.com/), they have a sale on JR Highside suits.

Don't skimp on gloves or boots, either. Also on New Enough, they have great prices for Teknic Violator gloves - $39!! I bought a pair for myself. The money you spend now for good gear will serve you well in the long-run.

Well, I got my helmet for free with my bike (gotta love the wheelin' & dealin' on the table... ). It's not the lightest; however, it will work just fine for everything I need. It's a KBC VR-1 helmet. LIke I said, not the best but will work for everything I need it for (to keep my head from splatering in the event of an accident). Thanks, I will check out that website.

Later,

Sean C.

Look under the Closeouts section.

How much did you get the R6 for?

I forgot to add - I bought my Joe Rocket Speedmaster for $240 through Moto-X (http://www.motoxoutlet.com/). I think it's only $220 now. Once again, look under Closeouts.

Lots of nice spidi hook 2pc suits for sale on ebay all the time. They're almost always blue so that'll work for you. Think about 350 and its a steal
