Default D16Y7 block/crank/everything besides head...same as Y8/A6/Z6???

Is a D16Y7 block/crank/everything (besides head) the same as a Z6/A6/Y8 block/crank/everything???
I found a Y7 block for cheap with just 2 blown piston rings...i'm going to rebuild but i haven't seen and N/A builds use the Y7 block for a VTEC high compression build (like mine )

Thanks!

nope. it has .2 less cr thne the y8 block
and the y8 block has as knock sensor in the block, other wise i dont know

do you mean the Y7 head has .2 less compression than the Y8 head? Or are the crank strokes different?

Blocks don't have compression. The combustion chamber in the cylinder head and dish/dome in the pistons make up the compression ratio.

To the thread starter, yes I believe they are all the same. The reason people don't use Y7 blocks is because they are newer and junker motors are less accessible than lets say an A6 or Z6...hope this helps

great, i figured they were basically the same and just wanted to check since i dont see them used a lot.

If anyone else has a comment please post!

I would like some input on piston to deck height though...

I know this is a figure needed in the compression ratio calculation, but I have always wondered what it meant. I figured that the edges of the pistons would always be parallel with the top of the block at TDC, but maybe i'm wrong. Is piston to deck height the height from the center (compression) part of the piston to the top of the block? Or what?

Bauley actually needs a question answered...I feel like a tool!

Pistons are different is why the Y8 "block" has more compression.

Here are the specs for the pistons...
Total Height/Compression Height/Dish or Dome all in mm
P2E (D16Y7) 50.00/30.00/3.32 Dish
P2P (D16Y8) 49.25/29.50/2.12 Dish

Stroke is the same.

I'm rebuilding and using P29 pistons so i dont care about the stock pistons...my main concern is block/crank/rods/stroke.

Basically if i put P29 pistons on a stock A6/Z6/Y8/Y7 block with stock rods and crank will they essentially be the same???

Bauley,
Piston-to-Deck height is the distance between the edge of the piston and the top of the block.

Interesting...

Here are some piston to deck heights then

B7/A6: 0.020 in
Y8: 0.027 in
Z6: 0.000

not trying to be a jerk but piston to deck height shouldn't matter for me because i'm using a different piston.

Are the rods all the same between Y7/Y8?

Piston-to-Deck height always matters when calculating compression.

The rods between Y7/Y8 are the same length. 137mm

well i mean that i have already calculated my compression for the setup that i want...however i calculated it using either a Y8/Z6/A6 block (all the same).

I just want to know if i will have the exact same thing using the Y7 block as if i pu the P29 pistons in any of those blocks listed above.

Does this make sense?

The answer is yes, you will have the exact same thing basically.

the only deff. with the a6 crank is its better because it has two oil ports per main and rod bearings.. y7and y8 only have one thats what makes the bottom of the y7 y8 so weak..but putting a6 crank and pistons in a y8 block will give you some were around 12.4.1 cr.. im doing the same build..
