Default Grinding tranny

There is service notice from Honda about a similar problem.

My transmission sounds like yours. It is very notchy when cold, mainly 1st - 2nd and 2nd - 3rd. You have to come to a complete stop to get 1st gear. 3rd gear pops out ofter shifting a couple of times per day. My RSX was like this from new. Acura had my car for three days but could not find anything wrong with it. To shift I have to make sure the clutch is pressed hard against the floor and shift slowly. 4th, 5th & 6th are much better then 1st, 2nd & 3rd, which is strange because 4,5,6 are single synchro while 1,2,3 are double (is 1st triple?). I'll inspect my tranny when I pull it apart to install the LSD.

There's a couple of people who have had their tranny's "fixed" from the dealer like 2-3 times; they are just avoiding you go there in person and be like fix this ****..

wow, i've heard of transmissions being a little more notchy and harder to get into gear when they're cold but grinds and not being able to get into gear is unacceptable especially for a new car. Definitely go to the dealership in person and get it fixed, don't let them give you bs. Make a scene if you have to haha.

I have an 02 Type S. A real bad grind going into 2nd and 3rd. Don't let them bs you too much. Took it to Acura they replaced the syncros for 2nd and 3rd. A lot better.

It also could be that the man he spoke with or woman was new....

Some of the small dealers don't have a lot of RSX's in the area to service...

For the record mine also grinds a little when cold going into second....Acura Tech-line is investigating the problem and they have no date on when the information of the findings will be released.

Glad i found this thread. I got a 2003 type s apart now, and putting all the synchros in for this same problem. The tranny had no grinds. Customer complaint is that it is stiff, and nochy shifting when cold. I will repost tomorrow and let you guys know if it fixed it. If it does not fix it then it is going to be something that everyone just has to deal with.

Acura tech-line is aware of the problem, Honda has received three units for a tear-down and inspection The symptoms are all the same, notchy gears and sometimes slow grinding. Mine was checked the other day. And I chose to not have it rebuilt since I knew that tech-line was looking for a problem with the updated synchros....Remember all the parts that were used to repair the 2002 models are standard in the 03 and 04's.

And I work here....Dealers are run like NFL teams, some good, some bad, some great.

thats what i did when my tranny was f***d. about one month later it started doing it again. i was gonna bring it back to get it replaced but i crashed my car a few weeks before i was gonna bring it in. . i heard from a few members on CRSX, that they took their car nack to the dealer as much as 3-4 times to get replaced .

I got this one done, and it seemed to shift nice, and smooth, but i do not forsee it fixing the stiffness when cold. My EP does the same thing, and i put new in it about 3k ago, and it is stiff. I am just going to live with it for now, unless Honda comes out with updated parts. I am sure i'll get a bad servey back from this dude, because i know it didnt do **** for it...
