Default ***I have an idea for a safety feature...tell me if I'm crazy.***

Ok, I have the GReddy Electronic Warning Gauges, which have an output for when a gauge hits the limit I set (IE, theres a problem). The wire is ment to be hooked up to a extra warning light and or buzzer.

Is it possible for me to hook this up to a relay that will cut either my fuel and/or ignition so that if theres a problem, my car automatically stops pushing? That way, no matter what, ff I hit a boost spike or my wastegate fails or something, my car won't keep pushing and I wont build more boost.

If I do/can do this, what would be better, cutting the fuel or ignition? Or should I get one of those MSD soft touch revlimiters that softly(safely) cuts my ignition?

BTW, I could also wire this into the security ignition/fuel cut off that I wanted to make.

So, what do you think?

Only prob might be if you're on the highway doing 80 and your car cuts out, you could be screwed worse then just damaging your engine.

I think cutting the ignition is better..i you cut the fuel.. there still be some pressure in the line that could still trigger the boost to lean? something like that...

never cut your fuel on FI its an easy way to blow up your motor. always use ignition cut and never fuel cut, thats why greddy makes the FCD for factory turbo cars with stock fuel cut.

I agree, ignition cut.

Here's another idea. Get a pop off valve with a pressure setting that you want. Then if boost spikes the valve opens you bleed off all your boost. Pretty coomon safety feature on turbo systems.

yeah, i think im gunna do the ignition cut. I might do somethign w/ the msd softtouch limiter (supposed to be better than a direct cut).

also, i forgot to mention this before, but this would happen if any of my gauges read a warning (boost, EGT, or Oil pressure), so its better than just a pop valve.

jamal-188: my engine wouldn't shut off, its just that if im in the warning area, it would get a spark, but as soon as it drop back into the safety zone, the cars still on.

Okay, sorry, I didn't quite get that, it sounds like a really good idea!! I think if yours works out good I'd look to do something like that when I get my turbo(hopefully within 2 months) What did your gauges run, I was just gonna get Autometer cause they are only like $35-55 each, but am I better off getting something better?

haha, yeah. always thinking though

My gauges. TFE (too f**king expensive). 175 for boost, 180 for EGT and 210 for oil. alot of money, but because of the warning feature, way worth it IMO. -- especially if i can do this.

I did the same thing for a friend of mine where I wired up some relays together so he wouldnt over rev with NOS. I hooked it up to the shift light so when it passed a certain rpm I cut all power to the ignition. I can be done, but with the msd would work alot better.
I swear you think just like me. But thats how all good things come out if from simple ideas. Keep it up!!
