Default BSQ - K&N air filter

Are you still using the K&N Ru-2820 air filter? Is it modified or is it a straight drop-in? Can you supply details on modifications?

Thanks

Hey BSQ - I would like some more details on your 'Icebox' too. I have seen it on your website, but more info and pics would be helpful. Any details on the actual install would be good.

I am going to construct my own soon and get rid of my AEM.

Thanks!!

yeah, i also have a question....... does the 3" PVC pipe that connects to the bottom of the stock airbox fit exactly with each other? cuz the bottom of the airbox has an oval shape while the PVC pipe has a circular opening

Yes. I have been using the K&N RU-2820 for approx. 4 years now.

The RU-2820 is not a straight drop-in filter. It does need to be modified.

Can you supply details on modifications?
You can go Chris H's Geeser website ( http://integra.vtec.net/geeser/ru3130.html ) for information on how to adapt a K&N universal air filter do the filter elbow from the stock filter. The only difference is that Chris used the K&N RU-3130 conical shape filter, I used the RU-2820. There are a few reasons that I chose to use the RU-2820 instead of the RU-3130. The first is that the RU-2820 has a larger surface area, it's dimensions are nearly identical to the stock filter and it has a built-in velocity stack.

To see a photo of the modified RU-2820 go to http://www.geocities.com/bretq/kn2820_airfilter.html . You will also see a photo of the RU-2820, RU-3130 and the stock filter. You also notice that the end cap from the stock filter can be attached to the end of the RU-2820.

I have plans to improve my DIY "Icebox" CAI intake instructions ( http://www.geocities.com/bretq/DIY_Icebox_CAI.html ) by including more step-by-step photos which should help. Stay tuned.

One thing that I forgot the mention in the instructions is that you will need to compress the end of the thin-walled PVC that will pass through the hole in the bottom of the airbox. By compressing the end of the PVC piping it will allow it to conform to the oval opening in the bottom of the airbox. Once the PVC has been compress on the sides and inserted into the opening it will conform properly to opening and will be sealed by the rubber gasket.
