Help choosing tires....215/40/17 size
I live in the Seattle area so i need good dry and wet performance, fairly long lasting and something affordable (good value). Kuhmo Ecsta Supra's look fine for the money...like these? What else should I consider?
Yeah, I'm really leaning towards these...unless any of you can sway me away
Now where are good places to get tires? Do you recommend a place like tirerack.com or should I try and buy them locally. Can you get as good of deals...considering there is no shipping?

Hey Mike95lude, on my other car ('90 Legend - now gone) I bought some used 16" TSW rims w/o tires. I wanted a tire that performed great in wet conditions, I found that for our climate (Seattle area) Kumho were the best, I loved em'. I am currently riding on Toyo FZ4's, but for a better price I would go with kumho. I actually still have my old TSW rims with the tires, I might use them for winter. Just my two cents...
P.S. Tirerack.com has good prices, but you still have to have the tires pressed on your wheels. I would recommend Les Schwab. They are much better than Discount tires. Thats where I got my Toyo's. The cool thing is that I found a small hole in one of my tires, (leaking no air) I took it into Les Schwab, they replaced it for free, and I didn't buy them there. A free $130 tire - can't go wrong with that!

I am in the same boat. I'm looking for new 17" tires too. I had 215/40/17 Yokohama Paradas this summer. They were good for the money. Not the greatest in the rain... Very inexpensive though.
I have heard frequent accounts of the Kuhmo Ecstas getting a "tumor" in the sidewall...
I'm looking at the Dunlop SP9000 now. They are on special in that size at Tirerack and Discount Tire right now. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Hey Mike. I just had those exact kumhos put on my ride. They are good. I bought them at Discount Tire Co. in bellingham for 83 bucks a piece I think
, and then smuggled them back accross the border. By the way, Hi, I'm friends with Jeff and Trevor...

Out of curiousity... why are you trying to put on a 40 aspect ratio... I would think you'd use a 45 aspect ratio on a 215 width tire... It helps to have that little extra sidewall... plus it'll keep your car at the OEM rolling circumference (do the math)...

actually, for 17" rims, 215/40/17 is the most accurate. 225/40/17 would be just about dead on, but only nitto has tires in that size. i run this tire sixe for my car. with 45, you might get rubbing.

Well, I did the calculations and the 40 aspect ratios are a bit smaller... Although I have an Accord, we have the very very similar rolling circumferences (2%) difference... and the 2% difference does make a big difference in the long run... but it's entirely up to you... the rolling circumference w/ the 40s will not stand up to potholes... however, with a shorter sidewall, you will experience better handling... but it's a negligible difference... for the street, 40 aspect ratios are just too small (i'm saying this b/c i've bent a set of rims with them, and w/ 45s i haven't)... i'm saying this from 4 years of experience with 17" rims (and 7 years of modifying my cars)
for me, i'd rather be on the smaller side of the overall rolling diameter if i can't get it exact. my tires(yoko avs-i's) never had a problem with the bad roads here in the bayarea. no dents for me, and no concerns running the 40 aspect ratio.
it's all good Dunreit, to each his own, no arguing here, i will say however that since you threw out numbers, fyi, i've been modding japanese cars since '88, so i've been around for awhile.

i hear that... in my region (the metro DC region), 55 aspect ratios are sometimes not adequate (although Mayor Anthony Williams has made leaps and bounds with the conditions of DC roads)... however, evil road joints and asphalt sore spots love to eat your wheel (especially when you have a stiff spring!)
err... I'm using Skunkworks coilovers... the fronts are great, and overall, the springs handling aspect is unmatched... however, the rear are SO STIFF that any dip or bump in the road will reak havor on the ride quality...
