16X7 or 16X7.5? What do you think?
So I'm thinking of.......scratch that, I AM getting SSRs (Competition) for my EF. My only debate is wether to go with 16X7 or 16X7.5.
My trusted friend tells me to go with the 7.5", but I'm just courious to see what the rest of people think. Overkill? Or just right?
Cheers,
Pascal

The more popular size is 16x7. Remember when choosing a rim you should look into what tires you want to run on them.
If you get a 7.5" wide rim you will be most likely running a 215/45/16 tire and smaller sizes like 205/45/16 probably wont fit as well.
But with a 7" wide rim 205 and 215 both fit well.
So my recomendaton would be 16x7 +42

The only tires that I know of that comes in 215/45/16 is Falken Azenis Drag Radials. So your tire choices are very limited.

It's the 'Falken Azenis Sport', btw.
You can also use a 215/40/16, and a few others make those. Off the top of my head the Kumho 712 comes in that size.
I would go with a 7" wide rim. No need for more on a street car.

The way I hear it.... the 7.5" wide rim would stiffen the sidewall a bit more and give more responsive steering.
A 205 tire is just about 8 inch wide anyway, so from what I understand the 205 is better suited for a 7.5" rim than a 7.0" rim.
205 millimeter = 8.0708661 inch
I already have a 205/40/16 on the car, with a 16x7 rim 40mm offset. By getting the SSR 16x7.5 rim 42mm offset, I'm moving the center of the wheel in by 2mm and the outer part of the rim is .25" wider than my current setup.
0.2 millimeter = 0.007874 inch
0.25"(extra width) minus the difference in offset 0.007874" = 0.242126"
So the rim would stick out an extra 0.242126 inch over the current setup, I think I can live with that for the better handling. Tire should not stick out any further at the tread, especially since the offset is increased a bit.
So I think I'm going with the 16x7.5 with a 205/40/16 tire, the 215 would be nice, but fenders will definitely get in the way.
Thanks for the imput guys.

For those of you who care, in reference to the different tire sizes mentioned above, the rolling diameters are also to be considered.
205/40/16= 22.457"
215/40/16 = 22.772"
205/45/16 = 23.264"
