Crank size difference: d16z6 vs. the y7/y8/and possibly y5.
Weellll that's some nice news. Yellow_Jacket just informed me that the crank sizes between the y7 and y8's are different from the z6's.
The z6 is supposed to be smaller.
So given this info.. i'm going to assume that the y5 also has a larger crank than the z6. Well dude... I have a z6 bottom end that's about to get a y5 head. Theoretically... am I about to run into some unforseen trouble? If so.. I need to catch it now before it gets dropped.

Cranks are all the same on D15s.
Cranks are all the same on D16s
Compression differences are from the Pistons and Combustion camber sizes.
The only thing your going to notice is a bump in compression from 9.2 to about 9.6

Really?

I'm so venturing into the unknown dude....

its not the stroke of the crank thats differant it the size of the main journals. if you want to put a hx head on a z6 it will work but if you tried to put a hx crank in a z6 block it wont fit.
The cranks are not the same on all D16's I have a y7 crank and I have a z6 crank. The mains on the y7 crank measure about a 1/2 inch larger! This of course also means that the blocks are not the same. I was so pissed off when I found out that I didn't measure the rods so I am not sure about those.

Im not trying to put one crank in another block or vice versa....
Im putting a Y series head on a Z6 block... where as Yellow_Jacket has hands on knowledge of the y7 being half an inch larger than the z6. I want to know... what happens when you put the y7/y8/y5 head on a z6 bottom-end.
You're all scaring me.

Hx-T cares for them; give me them. And tell me what's going to happen when I slap that head on that block.

dont be sceered civic HX-T. bolt the head on, welcome to the mini-me world. internaly there are differanceas in d series bottom ends (parts interchangability) btut the head will bolt on.
LoL Okay. That kinda put me at a "Wtf" point... I was calling to check my bank account so I could go and buy this dudes y5 bottom end. ROFL... I wasn't going to turn tail and run... but I was going to cover my ***. Thanks.
Wow and is it a Mini-ME? AFterall it's just one vtec head in exchange for another. Hmm..interesting. I suppose it still is.

heres some info that you can take or leave (look up in a healms). d series cranks differ in several areas be it stroke, main journal size or rod size. for example- the d13a2 has a 78mm stroke. the d15a2,a3,b,b1,b2,b6,b7,b8 and z1 have a 86.5mm stroke. the d16a1,a6 and z6 have a 90mm stroke. care for main and rod journal diferances?

Thanks man. Guess I'll keep the z6 crank.

yes the strokes on all 1.5s are the same as well as all 1.6s but the cranks are not interchangable. you cant put a d15a2 crank in a d15a3, or a d15a3 crank in the 1.5b,b1,b2,b6 etc.
true dat. this thread just took off about d series interchangability on the bottom end i just wanted to let peeps know its not all d series to d series, likewise for the b series.
