Clutch life and shifting question
Just wondering, what is the expected clutch life for an ITR thats been driven "normally", i mean the odd drag race and no track racing... How does everyone else shift, when you change gears do you let the clutch out slowly and try to make the shift smooth or do you just drop the clutch once you've put it into gear?
not sure what the expected life would be.... but, i have nearly 70K on my '98... doesn't slip at all, and has seen plenty of autox and a little road course action. release bearing is pretty sticky now though.

i would assume letting out the clutch slowly would put more wear on the clutch, since in a way your slipping it or lengthening the time of friction. ON the other hand, if you just let out the clutch at the wrong moment you can cause slight drivetrain stress. You would probably feel this in the form of a jolt or jerky motion. In my experience, the nicest shifts can be obtained by just letting the clutch out at the right rpm. If you can do this right, you should hear the engine note change, but not feel any jerky motions. I'm sure most of you guys on here can do this like second nature.
Yeah, the only time you should INTEND for the clutch to slip is when accelerating from a standstill in 1st. All other shifts you should try to match revs and whip that clutch. BOOM BOOM in-out

For some reason, I find the shift from 1st to 2nd gear to be the hardest to keep smooth...especially when I'm trying to shift quickly. I'm not sure if it's the car of it's me. My best bet is it's me...Anybody have the same problem?
1-2 is always the hardest. this is because the difference in flywheel energy between 1st gear at 4k or whatever and 2nd gear at 2k is waaay more than any other transition...
