Eliminate my road noise!!!
A few years back I removed my rear seats in favor of a stereo (see sig link for pics). Not surprisingly, since that day the road noise has been rather loud. I can hear the water washing over my underbody when I go through puddles and every crack in the pavement is felt/heard. The entire false floored sub trunk and sides are lined with dynamat extreme. That part of the installation is going no where. The amp rack however can easily be taken out and there is some space underneath.
Where do you think most of my road noise is coming from and what is the best way to combat it? I always thought dynamat is designed to eliminate vibration, not so much road noise. Is there specialty Lexus-like foam I can buy and stuff places?
I searched and read on topics with "road noise" but I don't think anyone had a similar stereo setup to mine so I decided to post.
Don't tell me just to turn up the stereo - I know how to do that.
I appreciate all of your input.

lol you need a brace somewhere. the seats are what eliminated the noise before as they absorbed it somehow and muffle it. I rememver the first time I took all that **** out of my car and I could hear rocks hitting the fender's... I am so used to that **** now its not even funny.
However if I had your audio set up that **** wouldnt be a problem for me because I would only be able to hear music... you might also want to invest in some tires that dont emit a shitload of road noise.
Yokohama avs es100 give off really low road noise.

Does spray get a
or a
from other people?
Any foam out there?
Am I right about dynamat being better for vibration?
I know that removing my seats and leaving a hole between me and the trunk created the road noise.
Are my tires (Falken Ziex 512) known for road noise as well?
Which areas should/can I target?

I am running a 205-45-16 and they have gotten louder as they wear down. They kick *** though.
Ok cheap noise dampening 101,
Go to Home Depot and get some of that thin foam that they put under your house carpet . Put that in the floor boards, and under the rear carpet. I did a thread on this a wile back btw. Also take that same foam and line the bottom of the cardboard incert in your trunk that covers your spare tire. That took a lot of my exhaust noise out.
Main area that I notice noise is under the middle console/armrest/shifter area. Do that as well...... This isn't the best way to do it, its the cheapiest. Dynamat is expensive and heavy as hell, I got a 13 sq feet sheet and the ****** weighs ~10lbs. FYI

Good info, but price isn't really a concern. If I spent all this money on a stereo, I can definitely spend a little more on making my car quiet. Also, I don't think you read my post and looked at my pictures before posting. Look again.
I like the console/armrest/shifter sound deadening idea though.

FYI - I have properly inflated, balanced, aligned, and rotated tires with tread life...always. The reason I got the tires I did was I've lived/live in snowy areas (Boston, OH --> Ithaca, NY --> Cleveland, OH currently) and keep my wheels and tires on year-round. I'm willing to sarcrifice a little performance for improved all-season abilities.
How are these Yokohama avs es100 you speak of so fondly in the snow and rain?
I can't wait until I move to a warmer climate and get an S2000.

I'm running these now. They are a summer performance tire. They do great in the rain, but I didn't even bother trying to drive my car in the snow/ice.

Except when you're talking about high performance all-seasons with decent snow performance like the Falken Ziex 512 - the tires I roll on.
Right bro?

I had Sumitomo HTR+ 's on another one of my cars, it did great in the snow/ice, and is an "all season high-performance" tire.
The road noise was a hell of alot quiter than my Yoko A520's...

well..is your car lowered?...does the road noise tend to go away when you take corners?....when I took all my interior out I had a lot of road noise only to find out I had a bad wheel bearing...you might check that out. If you corner one way and the noise goes away it takes the weight off that bad bearing and eases the tension a bit. just a thought.
