Default staging brake: educate me

From what I've gathered doing searches, I think that a staging brake is used to lock up the rear wheels instead of the ebrake using the braking hydrolics instead of a cable. If you use one of these, do the rear brakes still function with the brake pedal, or only the staging brake? (i.e. can you use a staging brake on a street car?) Do you use it for just the burnout or is it for the launch as well (to help preload the tranny)? Do you remove the ebrake assembly, or keep it as well? How do they hook up (any pictures, etc. would be helpful). Pretty much any staging brake info would be good.

The staging brake is mainly used on RWDs however its use is to hold you at the start line or to hold you during a burnout. it is independant of everything else. When on you brakes will be locked hitting the brake pedal would stop the front brakes but your back will already be locked up. Same for E-brake you can keep the E-brake to and if you really want you can put this on a street car if you think you need it for some reason.

I imagine you preload the tranny? Is the stock e-brake enough to keep you from slipping ahead during preloading?

stock e-brake does the same thing as a line lock or staging lock. If your E-brake can lock up the rear tires while moving then thats about as good as your gonna get.

The staging brake allows you to seperate the front and rear brakes, which will allow you to preload the front drivetrain and hold the rear, then let off to go. A line lock requires you press the brakes first, and then activate the lock....one time only, unless you press the brakes again and lock them again. The OEM brake works too, but the release is slower than the staging brake.

We have a line lock on the Supra, does the same thing... Locks the front breaks when you're staging, now that we've got an auto tranny on it, it just slips the stall converter when you're at WOT, then you tap the line lock release and the car takes off...
