Hi all,
im new to this board.

My 2000 Acura 1.6 EL VTEC has a knock to it sometimes. When its fully warmed up the engine revs at 750 rpm, but when you shift it out of gear, like in to neutral (has auto trans), the rpms drop to 500 rpms and then slowly makes its way up to 750. If you were to smack the gas while it revs this low in neutral, it would knock before it winds up. Sometime it would knock even at 750 if you hit the gas hard enough. But if it revs above 900 or so, it wont knock if you hit the gas. This knocking only occurs if its in neutral, like if you want to rev the engine. If its in drive and you smack the gas from a stop it wont knock. So basically what im saying it that if you drive it normally, and dont put it into neutral, the engine doesnt knock no matter how hard you smack the gas and no mater what rpm. However when in gear, the engine never revs less then 750rpm.

but still why does it knock?

I have 72,000 km on it. Changed the plugs and tranny fluid at 41,000 km.

Sounds like you have a fuel related problem. no honda should idle at 500 and if you gas it at that low rpm, of course it will knock. Do not make it knock on purpose, otherwise the problem will get louder and become permenant. Get a mechanic to check it out asap.

ps. whats an Acura EL 1.6? B16A???

 

its a civic sedan. most likely a d16 sohc vtec motor. you may want to wander over to the EK+ civic forum. that'll be more helpful to you.
