Default Type R as a daily driver

Hey all, I just picked up a 98R from Blythe of Odessa TX this past weekend and I must say that it feels pretty good to be back in the drivers seat of the R. He took great car of the the car and it will be well taken care of. My R-Adrenaline is back in effect!! So anyway, I have a daily driver which I have posted for Sale but am debating whether I should keep it or not. If I sell it, I can pay off one of my big bills and be closing to being out of debt but I will have the R as a daily driver. I am not too crazy about that senario but would love to pay off some bills. How many of you use the R as your daily driver and do you wish you had a beater? Please help me decide

If selling the daily driver means you can pay off some big bills and get yourself out of some debt then i say sell it. Sounds like selling your daily driver and paying off some bills seems to be the logical thing to do. Best Wishes with your decision.

That's not what the poll question asks.

If you're making payments on the daily driver, sell it and buy a beater that you can pay cash for.

As ridiculous as Hype R insurance is, having a second car will really help out.

Having a second car listed as your primary driver on the insurance policy will keep the rates down quite a bit. Over 2 years or so, paying $2000-$2500 on a daily driver will probably save you money. Also, paying for premium at every fill up and getting 20mpg around down will start to add up fast.

I enjoy driving my accord most of the time, its quiet and gets good gas mileage (on 87)

depends what your main goal is right now. If your current goal is to pay off some debt, sell it and use the R as the daily driver, FOR NOW. I wouldnt rock it for too long though as a daily driver, for theft and insurances sake. Once you get some debt paid off, go out and get a decent beater that you can pay cash for. a $3,000 civic with decent miles will last you awhile.

If the goal was to get out of debt, then buying an ITR was not a good decision *shrug*

Keep the daily driver, if it's paid off.

Nothing like having a peace of mind by driving around in a beater. My '93 RS is awesome! Gets decent gas mileage and on 87 octane gas. Oh yeah, it's an automatic too.. so even when i busted my left knee cap, I can go everywhere.

I have mine as a daily driver for well over a year now and the car is absolutley flawless still. no problems and still cosmetically beautiful. I dont have a garage I just take very good care. wash/wax every week sometimes twice. even just before it rains

I also have invested in a lot of security for my car so that will be one thing that you will have to do if you use it as a daily driver. I love getting in my R everyday. I feel like im squeezing it for all its worth and not wasting it. I have become a better drive than most of my older friends who have been driving stick for much longer than me. The R has an amazing learning cuve blah blah blah...... im done now.

Daily drivers are the best, it's nice being able to pull in somewhere park wherever you want go in for however long you want and not one time worry about what's happening to your R outside

That and I get 35-37 mpg in my 93 Si

RJ, I bought the R because I can afford it. My payments are cheap and I should have it paid off in about 2 years. If I sell my daily driver, I can pay off another loan that I have which was a personal loan. Paying it off will make my credit look even better and give me one less payment to deal with. I can afford to make the other payment as well but just not sure if selling the daily driver is going to save me in the long run because the car runs great and gets good gas milage. Just can't decide.

Will it?

Credit ratings are funny... and if you have no immediate plans to get additional credit (house, another car, etc) then let it ride out and make the payments.

How much money are you gonna get out of an 89 Metro? Maybe $1k? I'd say just pay off the personal loan quickly but for $1k or so it's not worth getting rid of the Metro.

For the amount of money you spend on layered security for the R, you can get a decent beater.

Heck, I can put a shopping cart in my beater and drive all around Tampa. Can you do that in your R?

My daily drivers an 03 F-250 Powerstroke. I can't even begin to put a price on the peace of mind I have knowing that my R's tucked safely away in the garage. If you owe on your daily driver then go buy a $1000 beater and call it good. i hope you know a little mechanic skills for a beater though. I also drive 80 miles a day back and fourth to work and I could never do that in my R everyday

i had a beater ('96 Acura Integra LS 4 door 5spd) at the same time that i bought the R. I miss it a lot and wish i still had it even if it did have 155k on the clock...but lowered cars in the rain suck as and i wrecked it.

KEEP THE BEATER, it will give the R a more appeal personally

KEEP THE BEATER. You would be silly to get rid of that. I thought you were talking about another higher priced car that would cover a lot more debt. Thats a perfect beater and I wouldnt get rid of it if I was you. I wish I could change my poll choice.
