rsx base/civic si engine completely the same or not???
are both engines and tranny completely the same. same amount of torque???
compression.. gear ratio? the fact the the shiter is else where on the ep civic si.. does it make a differnt in the gears?? or is just the same, just diffent placement of the shifter???

I don't know about the gear ratios between the two trannies but I know that the base RSX have dual stage runners on the intake and it has just a bit more torque than the Si. Others will fill in on this.
Yep different IMs and some IM-related hardware, but the gearing is a little different too.
The Si's gears are a little bit shorter if I remember correctly.

1) intake manifold is plastic on the base RSX and has dual length runners. si mani is the same as type-s
2) si has a 2nd order harmonic balance shaft, base rsx & type-s do not.
3) si has a much shorter final drive gear, 4.764.
4) si does not have the power steering pump, but has an electric power steering system.

Umm...I believe both the A3s in the RSX and EP3 Si have secondary balancing shafts. The A2 does not. The Type S and Si share the same intake manifold, only the throttle body is bigger on the Type S. The dual-runners on the RSX limits high RPM power for future upgrades. Hondata limits the revs to 7300 RPMs on the RSX because they told me the power falls off real sharp and it stops making power after 7300 RPMs. On the Si, they limited to 7700 RPMs (only 200 short of a stock Type S) because of valvetrain reliability issues. With the right cams and valves, you can probably do 8k or more on the Si's motor.
And, go to http://www.hondacars.com and check out the RSX and EP3 Si tranny ratios. The Si is geared shorter with a shorter final drive ratio (Same final drive ratio as Type R DC5 and TSX)
