Default Freebie Performance Gain From PS Belt Removal

I was wondering if I removed my power steering belt just for one run on the highway, if it would make a race closer between someone who beat me by like a car.

I raced a friend this past weekend and I always used to beat him, but he got a couple things done and now he got me by like a car. I heard the PS belt removal has some nice gains especially on the highway for top end, and can remove .2 seconds off your E.T. Also that it's dyno proven at 4-6 WHP.

Based off that theory and the one that .1 tenth equals approximatley 14 feet (1 car length) would that reciprocate the race results if we ran again? In theory and based off the numbers it would, but I wanted to see what some of you say as I've never done it.

P.S. I'm aware that it's going to be a bitch to turn the wheel. A really big one.

you probably wont be able to tell a difference, i had a prelude about a year ago and i was putting aem pulleys on.....before i was finished i decided to take a run without the powersteering belt on and yes it was a steering bitch...but i couldnt tell a difference so.....prolly just more work than what its worth

as ps belt isnt gonna lower your et 2 tenths. thats like loosing 200 lbs in the car. but they do help and steering is that hard. well only parking and stuff. just make sure you have enough power to slip the wheels at will and getting in and out of those tight spots is much easier. its what i did in the old car - 95 coupe jdm b18c
good luck

I should also mention that when we ran my maintenance required light had been blinking for a month. My oil was black as hell and short a quart.

I've since changed it and was thinking of doing this little mod as well to possibly change results or closen the race. Come on, no faith?

We do it at anytime between 2-3:00 A.M. on the highway when no one's on it. Not in the middle of the afternoon down some residential road etc. If there's a couple of cars in front of us, we won't run. Not unless they're miles and miles ahead in which by that time we'll let off before we pass them.

The removal of the power steering pulley yes will be harder to steer duh... haha, but you will gain about 4-5 horsepower throughout the entire RPM band.

Thanks for the insightful responses guys. I heard it provides power, but ultimatley I guess I'll just have to try it. Perhaps this weekend if I have time.

Jokerluv, I understand you're disagreeing with how I go about competing with this friend of mine. You're input is clear and I respect it along with any others who feel the same way. However this is just a quick convenient way to test our cars. We don't race until top speed. Just until it's clear who won.

If you have anything else to say PM me. Just don't ***** up my thread with more of your inputs that have no relevance to the initial topic. Thanks.

if you have AC take the belt off of that or if you can take it out too its heavy that will help a lil too, and try cranking up the ignition a lil too with some race gas

You don't need to take out the AC belt it will do actually nothing for you unless you are racing with the AC on. The AC is a free spinning pulley until it is engaged than it will drain power, but if AC is not on it will not take anypower to spin the pulley.

If you intend on keeping the PS belt off, I believe you want to disconnect the liens and connect them together?

Search in it. If they are just back to the box, and the box isn't spinning, its harder to move, the bypass will let the fluid move from one side to the other.

None of my EF's have power steering, and thats just fine with me..

Heh, my Jeep CJ5, with 35x12.5x15 front tires and a front detroit locker had no power steering...if I coudl control that, I can move some little 195s....
